Decided to jump in today to help out with the major order defending the planets from the bugs. Was about to hop off because the game was much more laggier than usual and players kept dropping off. It all makes sense now, All a sudden I got an update notification, and my phone started blowing up from discord talking about how the illuminate our back. There was still 17,000 players on the planet defense for the bugs by the time I jumped on Calypso. Just logged off and the player numbers skyrocketed! I'm running on fumes as these guys are no joke.

Arc weapons work really well against the illuminate. Rolling with my modified bug loadout. Taking the Medium Arc Armor with arc blitzer and Laser Guard Dog. Still figuring out the secondary and support weapon but last drop i took the Laser Cannon and it worked great at taking down the shields of the ships and walkers. Having someone bring a laser cannon to take out shields and another to pound it with heavy weapons is a solid approach

This is important info. I used a recoiless rifle & after firing a 3rd round and nothing much happened Irealized I brought the vwrong weapon. It seemed the softer target went down faster with balistic weapons and shielded types I had no idea, I'll use the laser cannon next round. I only had time for 2 rounds & in the 2nd round I got a lost connection error. Going back in very soon though. Thanks for the info,

I usually use the Arc Thrower as my support weapon. It can handle pretty much everything at this point. Pair it with the Guard Dog Rover & Blitzer so ammo isn't a concern. I also use the Gatling Sentry & Orbital Gatling Barrage to mow down a ton of enemies & drop shields easily. If a teammate has Orbital Laser, those will handle the ships easily without needing to toss grenades into the open door.

Edit: as a stunt driver/rider I appreciate that they let you drift the boogie and drive it in manual w control and shift. Very cool, boogie is my fav thing. The illuminate were tough the first like 2 missions then they became a breeze lmao, there are like 2 soldiers and 1 wannabe walker, the spawners are easy to destroy you just shoot the shield off, then Granade the door , i did a solo helldive yesterday and although i didn’t extract I got every mission done, with a non optimal load out (scorcher, pistol scorcher (forgot name) jet pack, 500kg and orbital napalm and orbital 380m. ) In other words, as of now, illuminate are easy. If the squid launch a massive attack, I hope they give us tanks that only the DSS can deploy! The ones I think would be best are IFVs like the CV-9035, the Bradley, and a light tank like the 2S25M. All of these are light vehicles with weapons similar to ones we already have in the game, are probably lighter than the mechs, and have tradeoffs. The IFVs allow everyone to be in a nice armored vehicle with less firepower with remote controlled weapons like heavy machine guns and the light tank 2S25M has better firepower but fellow Helldivers can only stand on top of it, making them vulnerable to enemy fire.

I noticed a bit of strange spawn behavior when playing against the Illuminate. Specifically when destroying the warp ships that spawn units. did some testing and found that sometimes, they would just keep spawning, despite the thing being destroyed. But because the spawn point is now blocked by the wreckage, they just instantly pop to the top of the wreck and then resume their normal behavior trying to attack the player. Just curious if anyone else has seen this happen. I tested this playing solo on some low level drops just so I could control things easier. They will eventually stop spawning, but it was just really weird to see how it would sometimes take a while.

Definitely think the devs should add city highways that journey throughout that map which lead from the closed settlement entrances we see in game. It would greatly improve the look of colony infrastructure for a more “realistic” feel knowing that as soon as a car leaves the settlement, they can take the highway to another speculative settlement out of the map where it would connect to other mission map settlements. It would also add a means of travel knowledge to Helldivers who come across highways knowing they connect to colony settlements.

I love what they have done with the city biomes. ( I been dying to fight in some urban environments for awhile now) As for the new vehicle, it can be quite fun and a time saver when needing to travel over long distance. BE WARNED KEYBOARD USERS, the vehicle is kind of tricky to drive, people with controllers will probably have a easier time driving it. Aiming the heavy machine gun on it can be a tad awkward but overall very fun. ( reloads really quick too) The vehicle itself gives off serious Halo Warthog vibes. As for fighting the illuminate, it feels like your playing DayZ when dealing with the droves of thralls. I found one of the best ways to deal with hordes of them is use the crowed control weapons such as the machine gun or the sentries. As for the illuminate warriors, you generally want something with med armor piercing to down them, otherwise they are bullet sponges. AS for the tripod things, best to use the recoilless. The best way to deal with them is to catch them with their shield dropped. Otherwise your going to be pounding on them for a bit till their energy based shield goes down. Sadly the EMP orbit strike does not fry any of the shields including those on the spawner ships. That being said, a single 500KG with take out a ship spawner even with the shield still up. Otherwise you need to take the shield down throw a frag into the opening, Or your choice of stratagem weapons ex autocannon.(PS the shield does come back up if your not quick enough.) Otherwise this a very refreshing breath of fresh air for the game. Sorry for the lengthy comment

I havent gotten above level 3 with these guys. Still trying to find good ways to take out squid ships quickly. Heres what ive found so far. 1. 500 KG one shots them. 2. Eagle air strike breaks the shield and a grenade pistol shot into the hatch kills the ship. Recoiless rifle and Spear only break shields.

Blitzer and ARC Thrower have been my go-to. It seems redundant, but those close quarters change how you interact with your enemy. Bringing the ARC Armors from the Cutting Edge warbond looks cool and give you 95% ARC resistance...which is a lot of Illuminate damage.

This is a bit harder to deal with. Corridor fights from all sides is a bit nuts. I found if I draw them outside the walls, it is easier to deal with the hordes. Plus they cannot climb, so getting up on higher platforms, makes most of them, useless... The buildings can be destroyed, so those upper levels are temporary, so don't be taking coffee breaks up there. lol

We need to be able to be able to reload mechs, making mechs “expendable” irks me, when you could get more life out of them if you could simply replace the ammunition. They should really add like abandoned mechs, abandoned ammunition dumps to refill mechs with armor and ammunition, or atleast as a free stratagem that has a eagle or pelican ship drop armor/ammunition for the mech specifically chosen. Seems like a simple enough addition

That was the best content drop of all time. I ran 3 missions with only one glitch that was easily remedied by a team mates bullet to the back of my head. Other than that it was flawless! It's like a whole new game! You need completely different stratagems as well. I've seen the 2 gun turrets be super effective against everything but the tripods.

I played at level 4, and Holy Shit! It was like fighting the Covenant AND Flood at the same time! I was not equipped properly, not aware of what I was facing, nor what was effective and what wasn't weapon, armor, and strategem wise at all. I was just running from the damn hordes while being shot at by those hate filled squids.

I jumped in for the first time when they hit. Having almost exclusively been crushing bugs since the start, being in an urban area with corners, alleys and limited fields of vision was jarring. But we need to hold firm brothers and sisters. Teach the squids that they should’ve stayed hidden

I like the possibilities that the Illuminate add. Apologies if you don't like comparisons but I feel like I'm fighting the Flood and Sentinels/Prometheans combined from Halo. Imagine the possibilities of enemy types when Arrowhead gets fully spun up on this new faction. Fighting against possible corrupted bot or bug variants and then a scarab tank -esque Illuminate rolls in... fml that would be awesome!

The staying prone is nice I noticed it several times in my 3-4 games so far and my stim spamming actually heals me rather than him standing and getting nailed. Now they just need to speed up some of the rifle reloads so a AR reload like you are grilling at the range with the boys debating philosophy between reloads. Tenderizer is my default rifle unless I want med pen because of its accuracy. And more often than not when I switch back to it or try to shoot after diving or w/e its was never racked. The mag change is slow enough but then the racking is just as slow. I actively try to reload with a few rounds in the gun now just to shorten the reload process. I know bullpubs are slower to reload for most people but no soldier takes 4-5 seconds to reload an AR or BR, even if it is a bullpub design.

The lightning storm planet effect looks awesome now, and there's a darkening effect that signals that it's coming now. Also, holy shit the Illuminate are hard. The auto-cannon is damn near useless because of the zombie like guys. I've found the tesla tower holds up well, and I haven't tried the gatling turret or the new flame turret from the new warbond yet.

Played last night on level 9 against them, arc thrower and laser guard dog had me slaying SCORES of them, consistently got 30+ kill streaks every encounter I had with them.

Jumped on last night with a buddy just the 2 of in lvl 6 and we had out butts handed to us. The 2 of is can typically do bugs or bots no issues. The squids are at a whole new level.

Yeah, I got over 600 kills on a mission & was getting consistently over 350 kills using the Blitzer, Arc Thrower, & Guard Dog Rover.

Finally getting some use out the Cutting Edge warbond. Scythe and laser drone combo make sure I ain't leaving the mission without at least 300 kills. Prototype armors make Tesla towers a viable pick and you don't have much trouble getting to monoliths, just wish there was a heavy version. The car...either it needs work or I need more time to get used to it because it felt like I was driving on ice and anything Nudged was causing damage. Don't get me started on losing the tires. All in all still having fun so thats all that matters.
