DUDE my FIRST time I took a walker out I tried to mount it but nope. I wasn’t disappointed BUT I would’ve been so amazed if we can commandeer the walkers. All they’d really be is a mobile unarmored laser turret. And those chicken walkers are so weak they wouldn’t have to patch a thing

Fast forward 6 months. There is only one player who still plays Helldivers 2 left named Shakespeare. He only plays solo on level 5 because he can't find any other players to join with because he is the last player left. They AH devs notice that 100% of the players are using one single type of weapons load out. Shakespeare has all his current weapons load out castrated into uselessness, something he has experienced multiple times by now. Finally unable to take it anymore, Shakespeare pours his remaining strength into a piece of writing called "Arrowhead and Shakespeare" and sends it to AH. The writing is a masterpiece. It shows raw hatred, revenge, pure unadulterated emotion and the true nature of despair. CEO of AH releases a statement: "I love how the Helldivers 2 community loves this game so much to be so emotional, it's so much better than not caring!" Shakespeare is so distressed he kills himself and the active player count of Helldivers 2 drops to zero. The devs and CEO of AH, who had been feeding on negative emotional energy of thousands, are finally starved to the point of desperation, and retreat to the far northern mountains of Sweden to join Grendel, hiding deep within a mountain cave, where they will sleep for a 1000 years.

That's part of why EDF works. Your weapons are so absurdly powerful, with enormous magazines and no ammo cap, just magazines. (Or batteries.) The Air Raider's equivalent of Stratagems (even in their higher cost forms in EDF 6 relative to 5) are powerful, available and directly cool down faster based on team kill rates. Imagine that. The insane hordes and massive monsters/machines still feel daunting and your still very squishy, but even through your an eggshell, your an eggshell with a heavy bolter.

You know what’s funny? When they think “meta-breaking”, their first thought was NERFING the “go to” weapons to make them equally UNdesirable… instead of BUFFING crappy guns to make them actual contenders in the weapon selection process. By nerfing the meta, they create a new meta. If they don't want a meta, which is nearly impossible, then make the other guns not complete dogshit. Some loadouts are just better at certain things than others. Ammo types have different strengths for different enemies but regardless, they should all be viable for a certain playstyle. Now if someone chooses to go all small arms fire to clear waves of smaller enemies, that's fine. If the whole team does that and nobody took anti-tank weaponry, then they can suffer.

You can't convince me that they didn't contract hire out the development of the game to another team. On release the game was amazing, besides the technical issues and Armour bugs, and a lot of the weapons needed buffs because they were not that good, but the game was amazing and I played it nonstop for an entire week, then off on on until the insane amount of nerfs and game breaking technical issues that were not in the game at launch. It is not the same game, and does not even seem like the same vision that initial launch had.

They pulled their usual bullcrap, they fixed armor ratings and gave enemies the capacity to headshot us, thus making hunters that always pounces and hits you from above deadlier, they tightened bot spread so they are way too accurate at distance, it is always giving more to enemies than to helldivers.

It's elitism. They want to be a great studio, but don't want to do what it takes to be great: listening to what the players want, and delivering what the players didn't realize they actually wanted! They need a creative lead that is willing to tell their "Friends at work" that their ideas aren't right, and that they should do something else. It's hard to be direct like this when the people under you are more your friends than your colleagues... I think that's one of the issues at the studio.

As a casual player with 130hrs in the game, I played this game after work usually at level 6-7 difficulty. The game scratched an itch that no other game could. I can’t play fps games as I do not have the time to invest into actually getting good. This game was a good drop in and drop out type of game for me. The nerfs really bother me because I don’t play this game to stress out and micromanage my ammo, I play this game to destress from my actual job/live. Me and my wife actually loved this game. Sadly looks like we’ll be moving onto another game. These devs are so clueless. Whoever is in charge of the balancing needs to be replaced. This game has so much potential.

As the lead balancing developer for Arrowhead studios Alexus Kravchenko is the one who lets nerf and buff changes be finalized. They are the one who gets the final say and even directs what the changes will be. If we want a real shift from spreadsheet balancing to fun balancing then get rid of Alexus. Here's from the Hello Neighbor 2 wiki about his previous actions: "Alexus Kravchenko was the former lead game designer of Hello Neighbor 2. Working his way up from level designer of the unreleased Alpha 2, to the lead designer of the Beta and full release, he left the team right before the game came out. Here's how you save the game 1. Buff weapons 2. Add modifications to weapons 3. Give the helmet's functionality. Thermal, night vision... 4. Reduce ragdoll 5. Better rewards for extracts 6. Never been a mil-sim. Im talking from perspective of 5000+ hrs on ArmA3 here. There is almost no mil-sim setting in the game since the launch. And the dude who made the original gunplay in Helldivers are not in studio anymore. I believe he quit just before launch. Instead we have that guy from Hello Neighbour 2 doing the balance. But then they "realistically" nerf all the players' stuff, including the stratagems and support weapons they keep telling us to use. Meanwhile, we can't pick up enemy equipment if we run out. We can't commandeer enemy vehicles even if we snipe the pilot without scratching the paint. We dump our partial reloads on the ground when a real soldier would get his ass blasted for wasting the army's money like that- where's our drop bag full of all the half-empty magazines we should be keeping?

Me and my friends LOVED this game and had so much fun with it. But then they decided the game was only for the Hardcore and drove us out. If progression wasn't tied to doing the higher level missions, we wouldn't have cared. But we didn't want to bust our balls constantly to get Super Samples, so instead we just moved on. I know we'd come back if we heard the game was fun again, and that there were so many good an viable weapons to use. We just want to chill and play games, not stress over 5 chargers and 3 Bile Titans on our asses at all times while Hunters swat at our cheeks.

Thats whats keeping me from playing again: the sample grind. Between progression of upgrades being locked by super samples, super samples only being available on really hard difficulty levels, and being able to lose samples in moments has left me with "why bother"? Why bother spending 20 minutes getting samples and trying not to lose them while trying to help my team only to lose that progress at the last second.

@@clay180 it was able to hit 60k for two days after the patch and is now back to barely scraping 30k there were almost two weeks worth of days where they couldn't even scrape 30k. Game won't die, but it's dead in the water for the vast majority of its player base. for a live service game their player retention rate is crap. they're barely able to scrape 10% compare that to a game like DRG where they maintain at worst mind you 20% of their player base on average, and generally sit in the 30-40% range, not to mention they're still able to occasionally create new all time peaks. Gets even worse if you compare it to something like CS2 which has lows of over 30% and highs up to almost 80%

If the devs play their hand well, are actually are serious about player feedback, and do want to balance around fun there's a really good opportunity to build on the lore here. According to the lore, Northman’s Creek was once a planet that attempted to secede from the Federation of Super Earth. In response, the Federation deployed Helldivers, an elite military unit, to quell the insurrection. The first use of Helldivers, specifically the iconic Hellpods, was during this conflict. Fifty Helldivers dropped into the Parliament of Northman’s Creek, assassinating the leadership and swiftly ending the rebellion. This successful operation brought the planet back under Federation control. A lot of players have taken up the initiative of blaming "Super Earth" in place of the devs in a bit of fun roleplay. Wouldn't it be awesome to turn our ships around and storm some government building because the Helldivers believe they are being betrayed by Super Earth? That would one hell of an event and it could just be over better arms and armor not necessarily a full on overthrow. It could be revealed that SE uses security robots suspiciously like automatons or maybe they have special trained or controlled terminids. Lots of possibilities.

It's worth noting that the last three Warbonds have been fairly lackluster at launch: - Viper Commandos released with a non-functioning armor passive, items like the throwing knife are still underwhelming. - Polar Patriots was and still is mediocre, with no new armor passives. - Freedom's Flame is decent, but overshadowed by their decision to nerf fire damage before a fire-themed warbond. Overall, they're shooting themselves in the foot at every turn.

Y’all, this fix is more than just adding numbers to the weapon damage values. Even if it was they would need a week to select the new numbers. They would need at least 2 weeks to revert the flamethrower changes because they have to disentangle it from other code changed during the recent update 60 days to revamp entire systems and try to release it without breaking the game. They also want to look around chargers and figure out other balance issues and could end up reworking some major systems. I know it sucks, but demanding that something be done right now doesn’t make it go faster, it just sounds entitled. That is literally the origin of the karen trope. Dont be a karen.

Typically, you’d create a global set of variables and effects for something like “fire”, and then everything that fire interacts with reacts accordingly. So, I’d think it’s not a 5 second fix but not a 2-3 week fix unless someone under the hood has really jumbled the code. Just thinking out loud not being a Karen.

I wish Arrowhead would give the love and treatment to HellDivers 2 like how Digital Extreme treats Warframe. Like for example D.E. will receive requests or questions from the community like “can we have ‘X’?” And they’ll come back with something like “yeah, we can do that, but how do you want it? Do you want it to be more this? Do you want it to be more like that?” They come back with questions so they understand what the community wants specifically and make the game just that better. If HellDivers 2 got this treatment I believe it would flourish and players would come back. At least that’s what I believe

That is a large dramatization of what actually happened. Most of the community wasn't like that. Besides, AH broke the cardinal rule for nerfing a meta weapon. You NEVER nerf it into oblivion on day 0. You buff other things to draw attention away then nerf it slightly. They made it essentially useless for the role it was used for almost overnight which is always going to lead to frustration and animosity. The "balance" also didn't work because they never added anything to fill the anti armor void so they nerfed heavy and elite spawn rates to correct that. The issue is they treat symtoms poorly, and never address the real problem. The real problem here is that A. Elite/heavy spawn rates are high and B. There are no efficient high ammo options to deal with that spawn rate. If they had made something else that dealt with heavies and armor, or just ammo buffed all existing anti-armor, it could have fixed the issue without pissing people off or nerfing spawn rates which also maintains difficulty. However they chose to nerf the ONLY option that worked instead then nerfed spawn rate because admitting they are wrong is too hard.

If Arrowhead wanted to be "realistic" then they would be adopting power creep. That's how warfare works. One side develops a better weapon, then the other side responds by developing ways to deal with it. Armies will always use the most reliable and effective equipment they can reasonably obtain. They wouldn't nerf their own gear to increase the "challenge." The devs have NEVER worked towards realism.

There's an old Extra Creditz episode about how in order to "fix" a meta, you should almost never nerf the op stuff, but instead buff the unappealing stuff and give the players more options to work outside of the established meta. If a youtube channel about game development can make a solution to this problem back when Helldiver 1 came out, there's really no excuse for this happening. This is an old OLD lesson the games industry has learned several times. And the stakes are SO low in a co-op PvE game that millions of players got because the power fantasy was awesome and fun.

I suspect a small part of problem is that some KZbinrs make videos titled Solo Full Clear with Only Starter Weapons No Deaths and the devs take it personal and basically set the game to what the .001% of people can do with perfect skill, knowledge and mechanics exploitation.

My biggest problem is them trying to make it more of a milsim and rely on limited strategems that they restrict as often as they can with jammers/planet conditions. Also, the fact that like half of the weapons/support weapons aren't very useful since trying to play a support or sniper type role which are not strong enough by themself to deal with enemies that are constantly spawning and patrolling near the players. They're trying to meld milsim and horde-shooty power fantasy together, and it clearly isn't working

Its because they are polar opposites conceptually. The closest I have found that managed to do it is actually Starship Troopers Extermination but that's because it started out as a mod for Squad so it already had a good template for one aspect of its game design.

No idea if this will make top comment or not. But gotta say, as a veteran of the game from near release. A creek crawler, a long time gamer, a 7+ soloer. It hurt to listen to the sense of loss in your voice. A lot of us have seen promising games die to poor development choices (usually forced by greedy companies like EA) and somehow i think helldivers 2 feels different for a lot of us. Helldivers 2 felt like a phoenix of gaming on release. A full return to cooperative fun where you get on with the friends, load up your toys and set out to have a blast killing bugs and bots and dying to stupid shit and friendly fire. As the decline and nerf hell sucked that chaotic comradery out of the game i realized i've never ranted or gotten so angry over a game as I have Helldivers 2. I loved it so much on release i bought 2 extra copies to get my friends into it. There was so much potential for it to feel like a dnd-story feel (joel/creek/saving the kids) with all the chaotic fun of terminator meets starship trooper. Instead chaotic fun with friends is replaced with 'gritty realism' and an ever hardening war where any victory is undone in a few days to a week at best. All i know is it'll take a no-mans-sky grade redemption arc to renew my faith in arrowhead games. To all my fellow divers, you stay awesome.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory sums up HD2. It was such a refreshing start. Full of goodwill, it's own IP/lore. Fun. And focussed on cooperation. And first Sony then the devs decided piece by piece to cut it all away until the majority lost interest, became cynical or downright antagonistic about it all.

I used to run solo infiltrator, with dominator rifle, 380mm, 500kg, and orbital. I clear half of the map and 1 main node while 3 teammates do the main mission. It was high stake high reward experience while i can control the entire engagement.

I am happy about the arc thrower. I was getting murdered by every teammate with one of those, they just charged up and let that baby fly in every direction. Failed lots of missions because teammates were racking up 5-10 "accidental" deaths.

@@eliupdikethat was a bug it only did that for pc players joining a playstation host. If you didnt have cross play on it took about 8-10 fully charged shots back at launch. Atm the railgun isnt unusable but its not as cool as ut was at launch especially its safe mode is now a complete joke.

It's seemingly better now, but as an arc enjoyer I was actively counting shots hit VS misfires after a while because I felt that fully charged, aimed, in range shots were just "denied". The weapon would just regularly not fire, shoot once, maybe twice, and another streak of misfires... Better now, but still happening.

@@Faminetheblack Initially I took it to the bots. For bugs I went to the MGs or the flamethrower (more the latter, because chargers). By now I often visit the Terminds with it, too. Spewers, guards, commanders all fall to the mighty AC-8. And it closes holes. It's the skeleton key of weapons, the jack of all trades (except chargers or titans). There is almost no situation where it's not at least a passable answer. As mentioned, titans and chargers, or mass berserkers which seem to fall faster to the senator. They soak up AC shells and you have to stop to reload a five-shot-cartridge while they close in.

@@ytgrayHonestly even Chargers aren't the worst thing with the AC-8 if you can get behind them, 4 or so shots will take off the rear I think. Plus you can shoot the round under them and make it explode at their bellies to hurt them, which I think is possible because they have some medium armor down there considering i've been able to pen a chargers undercarriage with a Jar-5 shot, and the Laser cannon too.

I've mained autocannon from the second I tried it. It does so much work and for what downside? A backpack slot being taken up? Yeah, okay. I run around with Orbital Laser, Railcannon Strike, Autocannon, and EATs. There is *nothing* I can't deal with and solo too. I take out portions of the map solo, from a distance or running into bases, on 7 difficulty. They have no clue what they're doing or the Autocannon dev is rubbing his hands together and laughing.

It's a shame that AHS went the way they did. But, as a former QA for Activision, it doesn't surprise me one bit about the statement the developer said, nor does it surprise me that they are blatantly ignoring what their players are saying. Sadly, 95% of developers want to make THEIR game. A game they probably got pitched with a very specific vision and are now latched onto, for an end goal. They saw the success of the game at launch and probably thought these changes would make people even more excited, and are now upset because they're being criticized. Because they don't play their own game, most of the time. To many developers, it's a piece of art, or a construction piece. To them, it's unfinished, and so criticizing what it is and comparing it to what it used to be is upsetting because they want to just finish it and THEN they MIGHT listen to the critics. But by that point, the game will be dead. It won't ever get finished. And they'll be forced to move on, still salty about what was said, and interpreting it as pseudo-personal attacks on them directly.

I know this may be the common recommendation for co-op shooters, but I'd recommend deep rock galactic, as for something else, if you're interested in 3d platformers try the recent demo for The Big Catch. It's called The Big Catch Tackle box and unlike other demos it isn't locked to 30 minutes, a single full playthrough to clear out the game takes around 7 hours, and there's no spoilers. It takes place as a prologue on a plateau meant to be a training grounds.

Helldivers could have been big. And I mean much bigger then what it was during launch. It had the potential to kickstart an entire franchise, with books, games, merchandise etc. All they had to do was embrace the community and keep doing the fun stuff. Instead they choose the Devs vs Gamers approach, hidden behind pseudo reasonings like "game realism" and such. And they seem really stubborn with these decisions. Its kinda fascinating watching the meteoric rise and fall of this game in such short time as it was.

The developers are not playing their own game. Otherwise they wouldn't need these spreadsheets. The developers don't have to be difficulty level 10 Helldiver gods, but they should have at least diff level 7+ experience. Why level 7? Because that's the level where you could originally get the first super samples. So they expected every player to get to that level 7+ and play it regularly. So that means diff 7 is the "normal" difficulty level (even if that's not what the developers intended). Everything below is just a long tutorial. You can't expect a developer to balance weapons when they're stuck at the tutorial level!

My wife and I waited to join up, until the game looked to have actual legs(we always look for games we can play side by side)... We finally pulled the trigger, the very DAY the Sony login shenanigans started. We are PC players only, and had abounded our PS logins years ago. We grumbled, made new accounts unlinked to anything else, and logged in... being filthy casuals, we have fun playing with each other. We play at such lower difficulty levels, that we don't really see what everyone else does. Even though things don't affect us like the high level players, we do not like what AH is doing, the rumored whys, and fear that the dev team really are just being pissy, because the chuds like THEIR game, and how dare those chuds enjoy the power fantasy.

They were quite clear the expectation was 50,000 LIFE TIME. The biggest problem is they keep paying too much attention to meta trash cancer kids instead of just doing what they did with the first game. Its not a power fantasy where your running around one shotting everything neither was the first No matter how many times imbeciles want to pretend the PSN requirement was LMFAO a shocking surprise out of the blue. it was announced weeks before launch, it was also announced that the requirement was going to be pushed to May, it was FACT in the day 1 EULA but the box was greyed out because they weren't forcing it until late May. Stupidity, ignorance and selective reading are NEVER a valid excuse for anything

They take a DEI loan and then invest as little as they can of that into a "game" - hire people who are hateful bigots that will ensure it fails. and then when the "game" fails as expected, they write off the costs in their taxes. bling bling, easy money. There's a perverse incentive to NOT try to make good games that might be successful, because they can get rewarded for making mediocre fucking garbage and banking on it's failure. HD2 Was likely in a pile of games that were picked up because it was likely to fly under the radar and just quietly die in a few weeks. Pushing every issue they have pushed should be an obvious sign they really wanted this game to die, because it just fucked their finances by not being a tax write off, but also likely costing more than they made on the DEI loan.

Just to add a little something. That "those five days" that are the "blueprint for success" weren't perfect. That patch was what dumped the slugger into obscurity and the bots came back within like 24-48 hours, making their "elimination" pretty short lived and all but meaningless. They literally came back and started throwing factory walkers at us almost immediately. Should've given that a bit more time to breathe and make it feel like they took a week or so to design a new weapon to fight back rather than just being "lol, you thought." I know some people would've missed the bots, but oh well, it would have been better story telling.

Separatists and memes aside, the fundamental problem is they keep giving lore to the enemies getting stronger, meanwhile we have an absolute drought of buffs despite "doing our part," and meeting major order after major order back to back. I exist on difficulty 6, and from my perspective, the spawn rates of chargers are as bad as chaff. What am I to do when they spawn like chaff but my effective weapons against them keep getting nerfed til I can't kill them as fast as they spawn?

I wish that saving the children had actually given us a tangible reward in game, instead of Johan donating money to charity. It's cool he did that, and all. But we literally got nothing in the game for our efforts, and a lot of us were hoping that saving the children would unlock the SEAF reinforcement stratagem. We had no idea he was going to donate money. Again, it's cool he did. But I don't understand the reward structure of Major Orders sometimes. We even had one recently that we had to deliberately fail, just to get the anti-tank mines.

I always remember the CEO saying, be ready for balances throughout the lifecycle, and I didn’t like the sound of that. Also, I feel like everyone forgets about the patrol spawns tweaks, saying that they fixed it, and then admitting that they didn’t actually fix it. Which means for multiple months we have been playing with fucked up enemy spawn. And it’s crazy that some people even forgot that this happened.

They need to rebalance their balance team instead. 7:45 and then they nerf the support weapons into a realm with primary weapons. At this point. I can do most missions with just an R-36 support weapons are dogshit and better spent on high-yield air strikes or orbitals, objective wise. If you're just trying to kill shit, and run out of ammo, I guess they're okay. Except for the auto cannon, that shit's just buff.

The two times I actually wanted to play Helldivers outside of the release was the Creek push and the push to save the Hospital. These were both community-driven and the community around it was responsible for most of the drive. Now, we get MOs that are generic and boring, instead of special goals tailored towards the special forces aspect; felt more like being part of the SEAF. Even worse, they went from offering rewards for MOs to "punishing" us with AT mines, instead of just leaving it alone. Arrowhead clearly dislikes their community and has zero interest in keeping their new playerbase. I'm convinced that as long as the playerbase is above 7k, they don't care.

It's almost like an abusive relationship. They say they hear us, they're listening, they're sorry for what they've done wrong - and then proceed to do exactly what we told them not to do, showing that they in fact do not listen and that they are NOT sorry for what they're doing because not even a week after their first apology they just go back down the same cycle. Over and over and over again

I have a new conspiracy theory. They purposefully fucked the game balance to get people pissed off, review bomb the game again on steam, then undo the fuck ups just to release the review bomb cape

@Jack1994hoo if the review bomb cape came out in context to the Sony drama, it could ruin their relationship together as publisher and developer. They ruined the game on purpose to release the cape in new context

21:30 Doesnt require you to be a dev mate. Just a player. If the customers dont like the menu, its the fault of the chef's, not customers. We gave them PLENTY of feedback, and they ignore it again and again. Let it burn.
