Thank you Catherine such a wonderful video on hellebores. I've been out with some fish blood bone and mulch today, I didn't know what to feed them but now I do thank you. You have many more than I do and your little helper was doing a great job for you! I only have 10 plants so far but I intend to buy more, they are so lovely in winter when there's not much else in flower. Thanks again, great info really helpful 💐

Hi, thanks so much for watching! They are such beautiful flowers and so many different varieties too at a time of year when not so much else flowering. Hope your new hellebore likes its new home and flowers really well for you. They sometimes take a couple of years to really establish but once they get going they are amazing.

Hi, thank you for your information on the hellebores. I just bought one in a gallon pot. I removed all the bottom leaves now that were looking poorly. My question is do I just leave the flowering stems to wilt and then remove them?

Hello and thanks so much for watching. If the hellebore has finished flowering you can remove old flowering stems so it doesn’t put its energy into seed production and instead energy is put back into the plant for growing more. If you leave them to wilt there is more chance of seed production first.

Thanks for the informative video. I just discovered helleborus and brought home 5, Frostkiss (Moondance?). I'm eager to plant them outside in my garden. When bringing from nursery and putting them into the ground, do they need to have their flowers or foliage removed? Would that give them a better start when putting them into the ground in early spring?

Hello I am glad you enjoyed the video and I hope you enjoy your new hellebore plants. I wouldn’t cut off any new leaves and flowers on them when you plant them but once the flowers have faded I would cut the faded stems back then so more energy can be redirected back into the plant. In November/December time you can cut back the old leaves to allow new growth to come through. Thanks for watching.

Great video! First time watcher here. How exactly do you know when the right time is to take cuttings? You said not right after they bloom or they'll go limp but to wait til they are "sturdy". What and when does that mean? Thx! -

Thanks so much for watching. With the hellebores you need to wait until the stamens and pollen drop and the seed pod in the centre is forming to cut for flower arranging. I will try and do a short next week on this to show you some pictures of the different stages of hellebores for cutting x

Major questions not answered pertain to watering/overwatering, how much sun does this plant require/ indoor lighting, caring for a potted hellebores bought from a market and brought home . . . . . a helpful video, yes, but lacking in primary basic facts.

Thank you for your feedback. It is good to know what you would have found helpful for future videos. I grow hellebores just in my flower beds and don’t have them in pots. If you did have hellebores in pots you would need to be careful to make sure they did not dry out and water regularly. Hellebores need enough moisture to establish well so would need watering that first spring and summer of planting if there was not enough rain and then established plants would only need watering during very dry spells. Our climate means regular rainfall and it is rare to be that hot in the summer so watering is hardly required.
