You really get a good sense of the individual character through each Seleucid coin, each with their own story of intrigue. That’s why I love collecting them.

This video is wonderful. I love the Greek mantra to being. It is just beautiful, and the coins are too (of course!). Thanks so much for sharing.

Well done and very helpful. I share your appreciation for the coins of Ptolemy.

11:45 I find it interesting that the successors of Alexander were depicted in such a realistic way, despite being autocratic and having a strong inclination for apotheosis, while the opposite happened under the Romans, with emperors started being portrayed in an increasingly abstract way after they became autocrats after the 3rd century AD

I have some nice Hellenistic coins and I'm glad to have them, but the mints of the independent Greek cities are much more diverse in terms of coin motifs.

Do you own all the coins you show on your channel? If so, not only are you the most knowledgeable person I know in this hobby, but you have BY FAR the largest collection.

Only a very few coins featured in my videos are my own, most are from fellow collectors who kindly film me their coins :) If its something fancy, flashy or expensive, its absolutely not mine 😆

"A lot less... individualistic." LOL. That's a nice way of saying Ptolemaic coins are boring and repetitive.
@neptunesmarsh3 ай бұрын
Ptolemaic coinage, outside of some impressive gold issues (which you have shown in videos already), is terribly repetitive. Ptolemy's portrait and the eagle, w/ few exceptions, are the only images until Octavian takes over; and both the portrait and eagle only degrade in his successors' coins. The Seleucids, however, take the gold medal for variety from one reign to another, until Pompey shows up!
