HELLION - Upside-Down Guitar Solo & The Hand ann boleyn

This is an ultra-rare video that was taped off of a TV show. The line-up is Chet Thompson (guitar), Ann Boleyn (vocals), Alex Campbell (bass), & Greg Pecka (ex-Dokken: drums) are in the line-up. This was recorded off of a TV show.
This was one of the best bands around in the 1980s and early 1990s. But, for some reason they were not ever signed to a major label. According to the band's foremer manager in an interview, no major record company would sign them because "Ann Boleyn did not sing like a girl." (What did they expect?! She was mentored and discovered by Ronnie James Dio!!) I put this video up so everybody would see how incredible this band was.
I did some research and found that all of the musicians on this recording are still alive and well! It would be great if they would get back together for a show or a new album. (I don't have the time, but, if anybody shares my opinion, maybe somebody could make a petition or something and ask them to re-form for at least a tour. Last I heard, they were managed by Wendy Dio at Niji Management in Studio City California.)

in the early days of metal ann boleyn was comparred to "female bon scott" and sometimes to ronnie james dio. everybody thought that she was singing like a man. but there were and are lots of people who love the tone of her voice. she kept singing for years after the major record companies kept saying that she needed to start singing like a girl...no look at the female singers like Angela Gossor, etc. they would not be where they are if Ann Boleyn didn't lead the way

There were actually three videos in the show. "Upside Gown Guitar Solo/The Hand", "Screams In The Night" and (the only one I haven't found on You Tube), "Bad Attitude". I have all the master and work tapes in my basement. I produced these when I was very young. It was nice to find these on You Tube as it's been many years since I've seen them! I thank the person who put the Hellion videos up. You bought back some good memories ;-)

For all of the people who don't know...Chet learned how to play upside down because he wanted to and he was able to figure it out on a fretboard before Stanley Jordan who did it quite well. His own piano knowledge as a child helped him accomplish this as did playing with his younger brother who was well versed classically on the piano and helped him figure this whole craziness out.:)

Sorry but Anne Boleyn and Chet Thompson both have very unique and recognizable styles. The reason you recognize bands like Motley or Metallica is because you hear them ten times a day. Can't wait to see Anne Boleyn with Detente/Fear of God this summer.

Ann Boleyn IMO is a very special singer. When she sings it is very hard to take your eyes off of her because of the way she seems to feel the music and words. I remember shows when people would watch with their mouth open -- and would be talking about the show days later. This is obviously lip-synched, but, it is still great to see. I'm listening to this for the 1st time, and his skills were smooth and rich in variety and it has really had an impact on me. the band is ofcourse, like i commented for Nevermore, they've definetely taken rock/metal many, many notches higher, for their time. Agree about Ann for paving the way for traditional metal female vocalists, but for the extreme metal vocalists like Angela was Dawn Crosby (from Détente and Fear of God) that really paved the way. Funny that now Ann is on a new version of Détente, singing the songs Dawn used sang on 80's!!!

Chet taught at a crappy music store in the Pasedena/Rosemead area right off the 210 freeway in California from what I remember. I saw Hellion with Chet a few years before Chet joined Mandy in WW3. Chet is a real player with very good phrasing. I was about 3-4 feet away during his upside down solo. Very entertaining show.

I heard that the singer is now singing with Detente, who later became known as Fear of God. They were a very good band. If Ann Boleyn can still sing like this, the new Detente might be interesting. It would be funny as hell if they finally made it after all these years!

I don't recall Chet having a scalloped fretboard. Chet was working with a guitar company to produce a Chet model with some very "unique" features. Unlike anything done still today. But as with so many cool players from the 80's, when the scene began to go south, so did all of it.

no offense to anyone, but i think the reason they never got signed is...they sound too much like a million other hair bands out there. think about it - if you hear a song by metallica, or motley crue, etc..you can typically instantly identify them. this band is just too general. talented, but general. again - no need for hateful replies, as i am not being negative...rather stating the way i see it from the record company side of things. They are talented, for sure, but too general in scope.
