Loved this game. Perfectly encapsulated how real duels were done. One clean strike is all it takes, even if it doesn't kill, that doesn't matter, once you get stabbed, you'll get stabbed again and again if the 1st didn't kill you already. A lot of media ruined the public perception of sword fights making them too cinematic when in reality we are all squishy soft balls of flesh that panic when a sharp object breaks your skin.

The fact that this game was inspired by Bushido Blade is a selling point for me. In Japanese swordsmanship, kendo, they have this concept called as direct line alignment, basically means the shortest and fastest to strike is a straight line (direct straight hit). This character truly demonstrates the concept of direct line alignment and distance control, amazing.
@broadbandislife7 ай бұрын
Well, rapier styles in general tended to keep the weapon towards the enemy to make full use of its length and control the engagement distance. The particular variety she uses is the Spanish _La Verdadera Destreza,_ "the true skill/art" so named because its creator wanted to draw a distinction to what he called the "common" or "vulgar" styles being taught at the time, which REALLY leaned hard into that aspect. Also had the interesting quirk that its creator drew heavily on Classical geometry and Humanist learning for philosophy and inspiration and tried to apply a fair bit of mathematics to optimise the stances and movements. Which was bluntly put a bit of a pretentious affectation only too typical of the era with its raging hard-in for Antiquity but eh, it worked well enough. 🤷

@TC-xh5wp7 ай бұрын
Thanks for that. I'm really surprised they thought they had "A true way" to fence. I didn't think anyone but the Japanese were developing their sword arts that way. And that they used geometry in their movements? Wow. That's why fencing is so badass. Add science, and physics it gets you closer to the truth. You can do it that way, or practice in peasants, Like the Japanese.
@broadbandislife7 ай бұрын
@@TC-xh5wp That kind of bragadaccio was actually routine. Pretty much _every_ olden-time fighting treatise I've parsed, the author boldly proclaimed HIS particular take on combat with this-or-that weapon was nothing short of the foundation of all fighting skills or something similar. It's mostly just the usual warrior chest-beating and more banally _marketing spiel._ Lest we forget these were almost to a man _professional combat instructors_ who made their living teaching their stuff and usually wanted to leave a living tradition behind, as people are wont. They had every possible incentive to oversell their arts in their writings - and this goes for their peers elsewhere too obviously. Many of the claims Miyamoto Musashi makes in his writings need to be taken with due grains of salt for the same reasons for ex. As an aside the "foundation of all fighting" blather isn't complete BS as such under all the wanton hype. Human biomechanics and basic physics are the universal constants regardless of the weapon, so the same fundamental stances and movements and principles keep reoccurring almost independent of context - if you parse illustrated treatises on say Late Medieval longsword and _kenjutsu_ you're going to see a whole lot of the same foundationals. Lots of overlap between two-handed swords and polearms too for same reasons. (The European civilian pokey-sword tradition had some to my knowledge fairly unique stuff simply because no direct analogues to the rapier and smallsword evolved elsewhere.)
@TC-xh5wp7 ай бұрын
@@broadbandislifeWow, you know your stuff, thank you! It seems to me that if you're teaching, or developing a style that's being used in life or death battles, you should focus your style on how to kill the quickest. Which is interesting, because there were so many styles. Today, for me, fencing is the truth. Kenjutsu looks great in a movie, and can kill, but fencing wastes so little time.

I really want this game in VR. I know there's stuff like Blade and Sorcery, but the AI in those games is pretty terrible. I'd love to see something that uses realistic techniques and presents a real challenge.

I hope to one day see this on the Xbox. Its realism is so fascinating that I watch this and other videos a few times. Love those snaps as well.

Was thinking about Bushido Blade and how I missed something unforgiving and realistic: no idea how I found my way here but I’m getting it, even Early Access!
