Yes painting will make the lounge nice and light - get a nice cream carpet - a nice pale linen corner settee with some contrasting throws - think it will definitely make the room appear more spacious 👍

I can't help but think you've got too much furniture/furnishings in your lounge it just looks too busy which give the illusion of it looking small .
