Yeah jesse, you left a lot out on your journey. I think before you, there were some others, i came accross this guy who learned from the grandson of soken matsumura, he has made two documentaries too that are called Hakutsuru The Secrets of the White Crane and In Search of Shaolin. And there is still a lot more like you can see in all the old british documentary series like Mind, Body & Kick Ass Moves and the others. What is still unexplored or at least not properly documented in a way to preserve it. Maybe then it is going to be another few centuries in the backyards of okinawa if a rocket does not erase it

Thank you Jesse! I owe a lot to you for helping out when I was just starting!

You were already ignoring things regarding the makiwara like monk Chi Sin Sim Si (five elders of shaolin) is said to have originally been a resident monk of the Original Northern Song Shan Shaolin Temple, in Henan. He was a survivor of the destruction of a Southern Shaolin Temple, situated in Fujian
@FuryoTokkoshoАй бұрын
And you were ignoring like that Monk Mok Ta Shi (莫達士) as an inheritance of the Southern Shaolin Fist in Guangdong province in China were practicing hitting against iron bamboo for normal training too. the style, formerly known as Southern Shaolin Quan, was renamed for the Mok family (Mok Gar)

It not like some warriors in their former lives became monks and were wandering with armed escorts to china from the south to spread buddhism in china or something .... like monk Xuanzang 6 April 602 - 5 February 664 eventually coming by at japan at some time in the timeline or something

Keep up the good work Will! I am a traditional martial artist for 40 years now. Back in the early 2000’s, as MMA became popular, I switched over for a time. I enjoyed it, the training and competition of it, but I soon realized that wasn’t the reason I was on this journey. So I left the sport aspect of mixed martial arts to return to my roots of traditional martial arts. I appreciate your research!

Man. I wish someone would spread some more light on one of the rarer styles like Isshin-Ryu or Toon.
@kyobukanryu9360Ай бұрын
Isshin-Ryu is very popular in Windsor Ontario Canada and for Toon you need to visit Seattle Washington or Vancouver BC - this stuff is not as rare as you think but it depends on your geography :)

You're popular because you're not posing, just being yourself, getting out there and allowing others to show their skills - sometimes against you (still wince when I watch that Fujian White Crane master nearly breaking your wrist, owwww).

Thanks David! And if you like that White Crane one, wait til you see Hokama Sensei’s pressure point attacks on me!

Great! Let’s see that Okinawan Folk Monkey Dance…🫶🏽🐒
@FuryoTokkoshoАй бұрын
True, a lot of kung fu research speaks of some monkey dance beeing the foundation besides the crane movement for footwork. I was always wondering if it might still by in cambodia or india since the baratanatyam dance is looking already like a wild mix of muay thai, kung fu and kalaripayattu
@MrRourkАй бұрын
Go find those original Te Styles. If you could show some of the more obscure family styles like White Crane Kempo that would be amazing.
For once MMA is only a niche too, i think there are not even 1 million in the US which is hardly 0,33 percent of Population, but karate is like 18 million which is 6 percent. And of course people are interested in traditional martial arts, if not then all the kung fu flicks would have erased already
