If you're looking for a musical journey - try a video on the evolution of George Harrison's songwriting... after years of trying to mimic Lennon and McCartney, he really made his first significant statement with his contributions to Revolver. (Taxman, Love You To, I Want To Tell You)... It almost felt like George's tracks were so strong that his influence was held back for the next couple of albums, but he broke through with arguably the top tracks on the following two albums (The White Album: While My Guitar Gently Weeps | Abbey Road: Something, Here Comes The Sun). Then his post-Beatles explosion on the All Things Must Pass album demonstrated just how much he had evolved.

Thing about this song is timing, it was the Christmas No 1 at the end of 1967, the best year in music, and possibly peak-60s, peak-Beatles. It felt special at the time, and yes, it felt like they had invented new colours.
@L33ReactsАй бұрын

@@L33Reacts Here's a memory for you. I'm sure it must have been from the back of a selection box of sweets I got at Christmas that year, but every time I see the Sergeant Pepper's costumes I see 2 round holes at the top of their thighs and 2 fingers coming through for legs. It may have been off a cereal box, they were everywhere, a bit like the Spice Girls at peak. I still get a flash of that memory every time I see Paul McCartney, I see fingers for legs...

This video is so fun - with Ringo's drums being so small, then large - John's Elvis pose - the 1963 coats -the dancing Hulu girls, and the Beatles gazing at the Ladies -and the Pepper uniforms! There are three edits of this video on the disc set for "1" -one where they are in average clothes. Some of those were used in "Now and Then" video (2023).

What's crazy was that George Martin was just randomly assigned to them by EMI when they started their first album. So it was fate that they ended up with him.
@johnnhoj674928 күн бұрын
No, George M was in charge of the Parlophone label owned by EMI. He signed them after other managers at EMI had turned them down. He had been looking for a pop group for Parlophone, thinking that he wanted his own Cliff and the Shadows, who were very popular in the UK. He was perceptive enough to realise that, having found The Beatles, he shouldn't try to force them into a Cliff and the Shadows template.

At the surface it’s about duality. However, Paul was trying to keep the boys together after Brian’s death at this point, so I hear it as Paul telling them, it’s not goodbye, it’s hello. It’s not the end, it’s the beginning. I’ve been obsessed with this song all my life, and still am. It sounds simple but it’s not of course. I love the shadow lyrics in verse 3 and few people seem to pick up on them. And McCartney went back into the studio alone to add the adlibs, including the middle 8, and it’s my favorite part of any song ever. “Why, why, why, why, why, why do you say goodbye, goodbye, bye bye bye bye…” An absolute perfect pop song. 🫶🏽

That's The Beatles!! Loved your reaction. Most Beatles video stuff is amazingly high quality. Many critics expected every new song to be a magnum opus when The Beatles wrote whimsical songs as well. I agree Lee, they're the best. I was just reading Keith Richards bio and he acknowledged that without The Beatles the whole British invasion probably wouldn't have occurred. It's all subjective to some extent but, c'mon--it's The Beatles.

Lee, this was most likely shot on 35mm film just like nearly all films and many TV shows up through the early 2000s. 35mm is roughly equivalent to 5k resolution. IN the sixties, The BBC had a rule against playing records, So the Beatles would go into the BBC and re-record their songs in Mono. They also did a lot of cover songs they did before they became famous. You can visit all these on the "Live at the BBC" CDs. They released two of them. In each recording session they might do eight tracks with four used in a week's BBC broadcast such as Top of the Pops, and Pop Goes the Beatles. Some very good performances.

"From Me To You" also spent 7 weeks at #1 in the UK (May 2nd - June 19th, 1963). McCartney's "Mull Of Kintyre" spent 9 weeks at # 1 in the UK (November 27th, 1977 - January 22nd, 1978). These are the sane uniforms worn on Sgt Pepper Cover photo. Notice Ringo's drums change size and his drum seat changes height. Paul wrote it , but some of the sarcastic retorts are Johns a.k.a "I can stay 'till its time to go". In the original British video in the Coda they were shown in everyday clothes dancing with the hula girls. No this wasn't used in a movie; it was , however, used as a promo film sent to various TV shows as they were not touring anymore.

Great reaction video. John's funny Elvis impression and the Hula Hula girls coda were a tongue-in-cheek homage to the Hawaiian-themed Elvis movies that plagued the cinemas throughout the 1960s. The Hello Goodbye promotional video was filmed at Brian Epstein's Saville Theatre in London where, earlier that year on the very same stage, Jimi Hendrix opened his live show with a cover of 'Sgt Pepper Lonely hearts Club Band', just 2 days after The Beatles had released their Sgt Pepper album. The Beatles were in the audience and were completely spellbound by the genius of Jimi Hendrix. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qovSequih6hmaM0
