8.1 was so nice. I used it for years until mainstream support ended in 2018. Shame that the app in the Windows 10 store didn't get compatability with the 8.1 store. If they had my Surface RT would be much more usable

By the time Windows 10 got released, Microsoft quickly pulled the plug on Windows 8.1 even though it was still supported such as the Windows Store and its built-in online metro app services.

Honestly, Windows 8.1 is not a bad operating system. If Microsoft allowed two options between the traditional start menu and the start screen (or a combination of both like Windows 8.1 Update 3 ARM32), people would probably prefer it. Personally, I have almost never used Windows 8.1 on a touch device, only with a mouse and keyboard, but for me the look and feel of Windows 8.1 are great. In addition, Windows 8.1 has many other great things. Windows 8.1 is essentially a Windows 7 with Metro UI and improved stability and speed. January 10, 2023 2:36PM

About the traditional start menu, it was going to be in Windows 8.1 Update 2 but Microsoft decided to retool that idea by putting it into their next Windows release called Windows 10. www.howtogeek.com/194942/windows-8.1-update-2-is-here-but-its-a-big-letdown/

I'm going to miss Windows 8.1, it brought so many new features and even I'd say brought mobile computing (for example Windows Phone or even normal laptops) much further because of its touch features I've been using it for the past three days and am going to use it for another 18 minutes, I am really enjoying it and I could even daily drive it if I wanted to

I’m using windows 8.1 in a VM and to be honest it’s a good 10 alternative for low end computers, I like the colored windows. I don’t really have a comment for the start menu though. My personal favorite color scheme is green ( Green start menu, green colored windows, green wallpaper )

I wonder how these W8 UWP apps will be preserved to be able to reinstall at anytime later bc they all have a certain charm (and huge nostalgia) to it, even if most of them suck...Gee that dead MS Store catalog gives me huge Wii U eShop vibes

They completely discontinued microsoft store on windows 8, 8.1 . It's completely useless to use windows 8 beacuase metro apps doesn't work. It's like windows 7 now.
