Foods I learned to love in Hawaii and still think about all these years later(they're not Hawaiian per-se though) Manapua, saimin, maladsads, Terri beef, pancit, lumpia, char-siu, kaluha pork & all kinds of crack seed- especially rock salt plum & li hing mui. 00:10 Zip Pack. Pre-Covid I would always buy a Zip-Pack on my way home returning from Vegas or any extended trip and I didn't have to clean up after eating. Waiting for Zippy's to go full on 24 hours at the stores that did so before. Ewa Zippys is 24 hours during the weekend now (April 2023).

Ditto the ZipPac. And I would have them sub out the fish for extra fried chicken. I would save the fried chicken for last and totally eat every bit of chicken attached to the bone. I'm training my grandkids to dismantle and eat fried chicken from the ZipPac.

Three suggestions based on what's in your video: 1. Manapua from believe it or not, a kiosk within Time's Supermarket at Kamehameha Shopping Center. I tried them here once years ago, and never wanted to get them from anywhere else. Trust me, I've purchased them from many manapua shops. I agree with you, Char Hung Sut and Libby's were great; sorely missed. 2. Pork Hash from Island Manapua Factory; either in Manoa or Kalihi. They don't have the large crunchy water chestnuts, so that's why I like them. 3. Beef Stew Bowl from 99 Local Mix Plate at Kingsgate Plaza. Tender beef, potato and carrots. ENJOY!

Char sui Manapua (I remember the Manapua man. When I heard he passed I cried.) Main course: chicken Katsu, kowbi, real saimin with fish cake. Desert: I’d just go to Anna Millers in Aiea just down the hill from Pearl Ridge Mall. I have called to see if they would ship pies to the mainland. I love the quirky, mixed cuisine from Hawaii. I love it all except SPAM, which to me is mystery meat. I adore Loco Moco best. Yummm! POG (which they sell in Seattle, too), is great. Haupia is wonderful (Well, anything coconut is #1 to me). I love Malasadas, as well. Give 'em to me just plain no toppings please. I love King's Hawaiian bread. I love most plate lunches. I love pork hash, as well. Kalua Pork anything is terrific. Hurricane Popcorn is great, but, I have never found it stateside. Crunchy rice cakes are wonderful, when made well. Katsu Pork is wonderful when made well. Zippy's chilis (and plate lunches) are great, but ... please hold the darn SPAM. Crispy deep-fried shrimp, from Haleiwa Joe's is great. Isn't beef stew, with chunks of beef, and still slightly un-cooked (not mushy!) vegetables, great? And ... when nothing else on the menu looks good, rest assured that there is always Saimin, folks. I love that soup. Now, in Seattle, I think it is called Udon Soup, after the thick white noodles which are used to make it here. Desserts are not my bag, as much. That is just me. Aloha, -- Abbie

We need both of you to review the best shaved ice past & present in the islands. One of the best places that is not around was Hawaii Kai had a Maui Snow shave ice stand before Foodland. They had regular flavors I think, but their top sellers was the flavors of Watermelon, Strawberry and Pineapple, as if you can visualize a quality like Matsumoto's with the taste of Maui's Guri Guri stand. It was same creaminess and taste of the Strawberry, Watermelon and Pineapple, but it was regular syrup drizzled over and if it was regular strawberry with condensed milk, it would have been pink in hue and not dark red. It was great and after a hot day at the H bay, it hit the spot. It was always packed.

Loved your guys choices! I'm not so specific about where to get my choices, because I'm not living there now. My last time back to Hawaii, the first meal I had was a Zip Pac and dobash cake (I texted a picture of them to a friend on the mainland, who I met when he was serving at Hickam AFB, to make him jealous.) So that's definitely one of my favorites. Hawaiian plate from Highway Inn was another main dish I had to get when I was back. For appetizers, I have to go with opihi and tako poke. Oh, yeah, can't forget lop chong manapua. And for dessert, I'll pick halo halo and haupia. Really, it's impossible to narrow down the choices to only those things, because I miss it all, but that's a good start for me. Almost forgot. Plantation iced tea for my drink. Always just the right amount of pineapple mixed in when I get it in Hawaii. Dang!
