its my favourite line and i always always break down. alberto needed luca and luca needed alberto. its just so pure and wholesome and it was reassurance to luca that he really could leave alberto and know that he would be ok. alberto got his HEA and so did Luca by leaving

It's so easy to get emotional during this film, from how beautifully they animate the way Luca looks at life on land to his family's acceptance and his departure from Alberto. I also went into this movie thinking it wasn't going to hit me like other films, but I fell in love with the nostalgia and the relationships on screen. Loved this reaction so much, thank you for not holding back :)

If I had to guess, I think people (myself included though I'm trying not to) looked at Luca's and Turning Red's animation on the posters and since the characters aren't as realistic looking as many of their other movies, instead looking more like 3D animated cartoons, people assumed that meant that somehow less thought and care went into the movies because of the more "simplistic" character design. But I've learned that I actually prefer this kind of 3D animation, since I've realized I think it's a little boring to just make everything look "realistic" - then make live action movies!!! That's just a theory though, but it definitely was like that for me

i lived in italy for a few years growing up, so this movie is almost *painfully* nostalgic for me. it’s so nice to find a commentator so taken with this movie and the culture in it. and the mUSIC i also cry to good soundtrack music so naturally on top of said nostalgia makes this movie a sobfest for me even on rewatches. (in a good way, of course)

What makes the film work so well to me is that you can interpret the film as gay based or played straight as it were and it still works story and character wise... Afterall Best friends can become romantic be they gay, straight, or whatever too. Julia and her dad are amazingly written and great characters The parents are great and it shows how much they care but don't understand... Etc. I also really like the film's use of art style, character design and facial animation, writing and character development.

Stop with the whole "these are kids" bullshit as if being gay is somehow more inherently sexual than being straight, because straight kids have been in children's entertainment since its inception. A gay kid having a childhood crush is just as innocent as a straight kid having a childhood crush. And this story mirrors experiences that many queer people had in their youth with regards to someone they had feelings for. You can't just say they're wrong for seeing those similarities. That may not have been the intention of the director, but it's what happened and it's why so many people in the LGBT community connect with this movie.

Another underrated Pixar film ( as much as a Pixar film can be underrated) is The Good Dinosaur. It took a lot of flack upon release, critics claiming it lacked the heart of many Pixar films that had preceded it but for the life of me, I can't figure out why.
