I mean even though the whole premise is already spoiled and done by the end of the first movie. A prequel of the first time they actually rig up these sort of horror movie death games would be kinda fun even as a short. We know how the sauce was made but knowing how the recipe was concocted would be a fun concept. Especially if its all done from the producer perspective figuring out what to do and experimenting with the different monsters all leading to the first test where we see the forst successful sacrifice begin with characters we dont have time to get attached to so we never want to see them win in some way. A bit against the original idea in audience is the god lore wise but an interesting premise @LeadrynMcKrotch

The “I learned it from watching you!” bit in the scene that introduces the kids is a joke based on an old anti-drug public service announcement tv spot that used to play on Saturday morning cartoons in the 80’s and early 90’s. The ad featured a father confronting his teenage son with his weed stash and demanding to know where he got it and “who taught you about this?”. The son exclaims that, “I learned it by watching you!” and runs off to leaving the dad in his feelings. The super serious voice over line at the end was about how your kids are always watching or something like that. The ad is probably the most famous of that kind that was so prolific at the time because it was kind of unintentionally funny, which kind of went on to be a tradition for anti drug ads aimed at kids.

One thing I think about the ending, is that it’s partially about ending corrupt systems. Like yes, in the literal sense at the end of the movie, the world ends. But I like to think of it as - if you have a world where some people have to be sacrificed and tortured for the world to keep turning, for the system to continue, then that system should be dismantled and replaced with something else because it’s never going to be a fair and just world like that. Best deconstruction of the horror genre since the original Scream. It's been 13 years since this movie came out and said "you're stale and unoriginal, horror genre" and we STILL get movies that commit every cliche and hit every archetype. This whole movie is an allegory for horror movie _making_ and the "old gods" are a stand in for you and I, the audience watching. You already know what the gods look like, they look like you and me. That's why the specific characters need to be the ones to die, because it's what us, the audience, are expecting after decades of the same. What Ellen Ripley said at the end really had me reconsidering the message of so many of these horror movies, where we're supposed to revel in these characters deaths for being... young and human. Horror movies used to have greater messages about personal or societal issues, and now it's "let's kill the promiscuous one because Jason did it."

Idk how I got here so early but I absolutely love this movie. Such a perfect perfect blend of clichés and original

The Purge scene location was bigger than they were expecting. That is why they had to fill the space with the CGI snake. Drew Goddard was against CGI originally, this movie made him understand why it is needed sometimes lol.

2:41 could it possibly be that the professor that broke up with her is this guy right here? I mean we did see a side profile drawing of him and this guy has the same profile but just no glasses. Never saw that before!

I really wished they never spoiled the force field with that bird at the start, would have been miles more effective if we didn't know it was going to happen.

No, it would be something that comes completely out of left field. Nothing else suggests they have that level of tech. Magic, sure, but that's a different story.

everyone always dismisses unicorns, unicorns were actually very vicious, they ONLY liked virgin women and would kill anyone else because everyone else was not 'pure'. this is one of my favorite movies ever.

There's a scene when they're in the cubes where you can briefly see a Tank, a Boomer, and a Witch from Left 4 Dead. The Cabin was going to be a DLC map but it eneded up not happening

This is such a good film, a bit like a ghost train ride, goes through lots of twists and turns.
