According to the Hellraiser wiki, the female cenobite was originally going to be called Deep Throat due to her gash in her throat which makes her voice very raspy and deep. But they quickly dropped it to just female cenobite due the obvious sexual nature of the name. I also read Clive Barker actually hated the name Pinhead originally since it was a name started by the fans as well, and it didn't make Pinhead sound menacing. He kept calling Pinhead Hell's High Priest but I think he eventually grew to like it since well the name just sticked by fans.

When I was 9, my mother took me to Texas Frightmare Weekend back in 2011. She made Lament Configuration box for me and even made a badass cenobite costume for me which I absolutely loved, I still have it to this day. The first person I met was Ashley Laurence (Kirsty) and she loved my costume and LOVED me. (She asked my mother if she can have me lol) she even signed the lament configuration box my mother made as well, and she even introduced me to Doug Bradley (Pinhead). At that point, I was just full of happiness and excitement and Doug even signed the box as well and I forgot to mention just how nice, and pleasant both Doug and Ashley are, like they let me take my time asking questions (I was shy), they answered with details and it was definitely a treat. Here’s where the story gets interesting. Doug asked if he could introduce me to CLIVE FUCKING BARKER HIMSELF. Now here’s the thing about Clive, his line of people was longer than any Line at Disneyworld ever. It literally started on the third story of the hotel the convention was at (meaning not everyone was gonna meet him that day). So when I told Doug I would like to meet Clive (cuz I’m not stupid) he held my hand and took me all the way to the front of the line, where CLIVE FUCKING BARKER was. The man was signing a poster around the time when Doug said “hey Clive, you gotta see this kid”. Like who needs a fast pass when you have Fucking Pinhead? I talk to Clive, he love my costume, he signed the box as well, and he even decided to have a PRIVATE PHOTOSHOOT with me. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience and I’ll never forget it. After that, I met a bunch of other great folks like Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger), Angus Scrimm (Tall Man), etc. 2011 was the best year of my life so far and Clive Barker will always be my Hero.

True story: When I was a kid, maybe 6-7 years old. My dad would tape movies from HBO on VHS and label them himself. He would put mutilple movies on one VHS tape, and put them in alphabetical order, poorly I may add. Anyways, my mom worked midnights, so she'd be home with me during the day. I wanted to watch Home Alone, so we did. She fell asleep half way through and my eyes were glued to the set. So after Home Alone was over, Hellraiser came on. I was a little kid, and very curious, so I didn't wake my mom. She ended up waking up right near the end, when he says "Jesus wept" and tried to turn off the TV, but couldn't find the remote. The damage was done anyway, and a (very young) horror fan was born.

I always liked the idea of the Cenobytes as inter-dimensional beings that have explored such depths of hedonism in the universe that pleasure and pain have become one for them. It is much more interesting than the biblical demons from hell trope. I never liked the boney dragon thing at the end, it is one of my least favorite parts of the movie because it completely contradicts everything Pinhead has been saying about him and his.... gash ::shudder::

Notice how much worse the series got, the more it indeed leaned into that black-and-white, good-and-evil trope of just making them demons from Hell.
@samdubois80072 жыл бұрын
Yeah - that's the one thing I'm not crazy about in Barker's vision of them, he did go kinda all out on the "they're demons from the good ol' Christian Hells" in his later projects (comics and The Scarlet Gospels). I much prefer what the first couple of movies infer, which is that they're ... almost like, fairies, in a weird way? As in, the weird, threatening, Fair Folk kind that loves making deals and are generally unknowable and low-key terrifying. But not evil per se.
@JMulvy2 жыл бұрын
If you are familiar with The Elder Scrolls series, I always related to them as Daedric Princes. In TES, the Daedra are a series of gods, no sex, no morality. They are all called Princes regardless of any effeminate form they may take and they make deals with mortals in order to entertain themselves, but they are neither malevolent nor benevolent. They have no concept of good or bad they just preside over their own realms of (for example) night, thievery, debauchery, pestilence, disease, torture, wild beasts, the dead, the undead, prosperity, good fortune, mischief, etc. All different realms of influence.
@JMulvy2 жыл бұрын
I just love the concept of having no morality. They simply exist and because of their eternal nature, are just trying to entertain themselves by interfering with; but not purposefully directing in one way or another, the lives of mankind. Even the God of pain and torture doesn't have an evil agenda, he simply exists to inflict pain and torture. For some that is "demonic" for others... not so much.
