All of you posting this is Monte Crisco....thank you! I loved this sandwich at Macy's years ago. I couldn't find a recipe until today. Alittle spicy mustard and BINGO!

This isn't a Monte Cristo sandwich. They are savory and sweet, not spicy, they are using sandwich bread instead of breading from a badder, and there's no jelly, the absolute Hallmark of a Monte Cristo. Glad you found what you wanted, but this is just a grilled cheese sandwich.

While cheddar is a popular choice, I think the full fat, high moisture mozzarella will melt more easily. Mild cheddar melts faster than aged cheddar.

Great idea! I used with what I had @ home & was great! Used some brioche with sweet mustard & smoked salmon. Super start to the day! Thanks so much --- easy & tasty. Open minds help. French toast refers only to sliced bread soaked in beaten eggs & often milk, then pan fried.

……yes, me too! If it’s going to be dipped in egg, & fried, there’s really no need for anything on the bread. If you want to make it more tasty, a very thin amount if Hot English Mustard would be ideal for the ham…………

Me 2 I don't eat butter either, I just skip those 2 ingredients and use olive oil. Cook and enjoy .

You could also omit the Mayo, and when it's completed, use pancake syrup on the sandwich. Just like regular French toast

Try using Texas toast instead of regular bread it's a bit thicker and made with eggs so they have a yellow color
