I’m 75 & I’ve had this problem for almost a yr now & finally decided to see a gynecologist about it because of the pain & bleeding. She suggested me using Cetaphil cleanser which is very mild & hypoallergenic & she prescribed a steroid ointment. I seen her today & she suggested I use either Cetaphil cream in the jar or Aquaphor cream because I’m so dry. She is a wonderful lady & has helped me tremendously. Fortunately I’m not sexually active anymore since my husband has passed away 3 yrs ago. It helps to know that I’m not alone in this, we all can use the support that’s out there, both women & men alike.

i'm fifteen and i've had this problem for 3 years. i was only diagnosed earlier this year however, and it's gotten so severe that i've been stuck in the bathroom for the whole day at times, trying to soothe it and stop the itch, but it doesn't ever go away. even my attendance for school has been effected. i really wish there was more awareness for it because these last year's have been a real pain in the ass and i pray for everyone and anyone who has to deal with LS.

That’s ridiculous and shame on the doctors who you saw for those three years. Can’t imagine what would have happened to you if you got this during the 90s, I had to have major surgery during winter break at college. I was told by doctors for 3 years that it was an std before they even took a test or yeast infection etc. mind you at the time I had one sexual partner all my life. I had permanent damage done to my glands and then had major surgery and was on bed rest for a month after - as I had triple the number of glands than the average person. I was sexually abused as a child and I think this was one factor in causing this issue - I don’t care what anyone says. I sincerely hope you don’t get interstitial cystitis after child birth cuz that’s what happened to me.

I have had great success using organic extra virgin cold pressed olive oil daily. Simply rub it in to the area. For the first couple of weeks I gently cleansed myself with water after using the bathroom and then reapply the olive oil each time. I now only use it in the morning and again before bedtime. I found it way more effective then a steroid cream. I also have been researching and discovered that low oxalate eating can help this disorder. 2 of the highest oxalate containing foods are spinach and potatoes. I gave both of them up and it wasn't easy giving up potato chips and french fries. My pain is gone so it was well worth it.

I’ve been diagnosed today following a biopsy , I don’t have the usual symptoms of LS though , no white patches just a horrible itch and a lump that never seemed to heal with occasional bleeding . It was suspected squamous cell cancer but thankfully the biopsy showed LS instead . Am waiting to be given a prescription of steroid cream and an appointment for my local vulva cancer centre . Just SO relieved I don’t have cancer 🙌🏻

I didn’t even know there was such a place as a vulva cancer center. I’ve had SCC for under a yr now & it’s very painful & uncomfortable. Thank God I’m not sexually active anymore. Thank you for sharing your story, Sue Smith.

I cut out all yeast and my itching stopped, I still suffer with LS but stopping that awful itch has made it more manageable and bearable. I’ve also cut out gluten and follow a celiac diet. The health authorities around the world need to provide money for more research in this debilitating disease UPDATE ONE YEAR ON I still have flare ups but the gluten and yeast free diet still helps. I’m very lucky my consultant and doctor are really supportive and prescribe different creams and ointments, hopefully to find something that works (I’m from West Midlands UK 🇬🇧)

They do not know what causes this condition, but it is linked to Lichen Planus in your mouth - so it's something that affects mucous membranes. It appears like canker sores in the mouth, too. Baking Soda in the mouth heals them. Baking soda in your bath, like a sitz bath, may help Lichen Sclerosis. Borax baths may help, too. Borax will not hurt you if used externally - people use it in their laundry all the time. It is a disinfectant. You can buy it in a cardboard box where laundry detergent is sold. Some people have results using Monistat, an anti fungal, and many people find that eating lots of carbs or sweet foods make these conditions worse - that sounds fungal, too. Do what's common sense: reduce skin abrasion by changing your wardrobe - don't wear pyjama pants that have a seam up the middle - wear a nightgown. Wear more tights and pants that have gussets in the crotch rather than a rough seam. Wear more skirts and cotton underwear. Don't use polyester sanitary pads. Don't eat sugary or carby worthless foods. Lastly, emollients. Especially menopausal women find their skin very dry and thin all over their bodies, so use olive oil or coconut oil religiously, especially in the genital area. Olive oil is very effective. Blot yourself carefully rather than rub with toilet paper or bath towels. Be gentle! Good luck everybody! Don't get discouraged!

Then I remember my parents going through something in their relationship where they thought the other was cheating and giving them an std. The finding was THIS and here I am suffering with it. I also have hypothyroidism and gluten allergy. Keeping gluten out and lowering my sugar intake has helped, but when my cycle comes around, ugh! Lichen game on! Thanks for the video. I will look into some of those treatments. I use the steroid cream when its super bad but would love to be free of this. Its gone away on other parts of my body with diet maintenance. Here's praying💗

Thats what I had for my northern region😒 but I saw a nutritionist amd we are working on what foods are factoring to set off of the flare ups. I switch these treatments periodically. I also apply Egyptian Magic cream (order from Costco for $19.99). I also soak every other day in bath tub with 1/4 cup borax and 1/4 cup baking for minimum 20 minutes. If I am going out I apply, as needed, organic ozonated olive oil (buy on eBay).
