New yorker married to a Parisien. My mother had my sisters and me wearing berets since we were young. It isnt the beret per se, its HOW one wears it. Not like a pancake sitting flat on your noggin. We’re in Paris every winter and there are plenty of women wearing berets the correct way. Paris is a great City. It’s liveable and I love it as much as my beloved NYC. Its chill. It’s relaxed. And onr can remain delightfully anonymous. Be polite. Dont be full of yourself. Learn basic phrases. Be mindful of what times restaurants are serving. Use your indoor voice. The smoking? Its their country -I don’t smoke but over the years its been a noticeable decline in smokers.
