Loving your videos man, recently picked up lockpicking and youve been very helpful and informative. Can i ask, when talking about light, medium or heavy tension does it refer to how much pressure you put on the tension wrench after youve already turned the keyway until it can no longer move or am i missing something? Great videos my guy
@HelpfulLockPicker4 жыл бұрын
It is subjective. Light for me is barley touching it and heavy is the point right before all the pins bind due to tension

I love your videos but I have a vision problem, sadly, I am very serious. Would you consider a tutorial at your chosen price? For example: i’m completely unable to see where exactly you strike the key, does it go in the lock teeth up, sideways, or down? I hope you can help. Thank you for considering
@HelpfulLockPicker2 жыл бұрын
You insert the key the normal way that would fit into your lock and you just strike the end of the key. You want to pull it out one position well lightly holding it turn towards the open position

I notice a lot of the ones sold on ebay are called Depth Key. Are these the same as bump keys? They look the same to me and they even sell them with the rubber rings.
@HelpfulLockPicker3 жыл бұрын
People sell the "depth key" on eBay because eBay will pull their listing down due to not being allowed to sell lock picks. A space and depth key is a set of keys cut to each space and depth of the lock you are working with. They were traditionally used so you could "code cut" with a duplicator. The lowest depth key is technically a bump key but it is usually missing one fine alteration which is shaving the tip down.

How do u find out witch bump key fits certain locks.i have 3 different bump keys.also can u use the same bump key on different locks
@HelpfulLockPicker5 жыл бұрын
the bump key needs to fit the keyway for profile of the lock For example Kwikset has a KW1 keyway and for that lock you would need to use a KW1 bump key. In general it just takes a little bit of practice and if the bump key fits it is usually usable

I am trying to learn to bump locks. I have a standard bump set but am having trouble. When you say lightly torque the key, how lightly do you mean? And how hard do you hit the bump key?
@HelpfulLockPicker4 жыл бұрын
I turn it where I am barley touching it, just enough for the plug to turn if everything sets. I hit it with the bump hammer with enough force to make the key move into the cylinder very quickly.
@charlesklein72326 жыл бұрын
their is a method of pick proofing your lock with a "T" pin and master waffer but would this help with bumping?
@HelpfulLockPicker6 жыл бұрын
charles klein It would because you would need to have each tip pin set exactly right for an open that would not seize the lock. I also like adding zero lift pins to locks from time to time.

@Sabi1234567890Asdf3 жыл бұрын
ones you have to watch for 99 percent of the time are counter pick locks. They will turn to 1/4 of the way but without the proper tools or the key they will lock up. But in my 2 years of holding a locksmith licence I have never encountered a lock like that. Scoring is more likely and can render a lock inoperable. But I have seen a video of the lock picking lawyer on a lock that will lock up If picked without the key and you didnt know it had a pick proof lock

Here it is at 4am and after trying this I realized I didn't really know what I was doing. I ended up climbing into my living room window all the time worrying a cop would put a bullet in my ass as I clambered through head first. I'm 68 years old so even that was no easy feat.
