In this video we break out of our typical flow of videos and take you on a journey through the troubleshooting process, bug discovery, and oh all the fun that comes with setting up a PiHole docker on a Synology NAS. This is a followup to our previous video here: . Based on the comments, we wanted to go over some of the things that we may have quickly skipped over in the original video. Hopefully this is, if nothing else, entertaining for those of you who dare to reach the finish of this very long video :-) sorry about that.
56 - Checking for open/conflicting ports
13 - Setting up the container (again)
46 - Good resource for checking default port assignments
51 - First instance of hitting a Synology bug
03 - Proving the Synology bug
16 - Highlighting the 3 big problems with the bug
55 - Second instance of hitting the Synology bug
53 - One way to work around the Synology bug (this is probably going to be the most helpful bit of the video, although you still need to verify that the ports you ultimately set are not in use somewhere else on the system)
50 - How to tell if the PiHole is running from within the container using dig (testing as local as we can get and we'll move our way out from the PiHole container)
39 - Finding the PiHole web interface password from the logs
37 - First instance of ANOTHER Synology bug
08 - Continuing the web interface password, setting/re-setting it from the command line
57 - How to tell if the PiHole is running from outside the container using a Windows client (using nslookup
39 - How to tell if the PiHole is running from outside the container using a Linux client (we run into another troubleshooting opportunity here so watch this if that's why you're watching this video)
23 - Get an error when querying the PiHole container from another container, this is because the IP we used for earlier queries was outside of the Docker LAN (which appears to be 172.16.0.0/??) but we'll get that fixed later in the video.
24 - Functional dig command (for Linux clients)
36 - NO HYPHEN (Linux clients)
