This video clip is an excerpt of "Challenging Behaviors in Dementia Care", a two and a half hour educational DVD for Alzheimers Dementia Care Partners, with Teepa Snow, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA.
Anger, physical resistance, swearing, hallucinations, sexually undesired advances, or surprising actions are just a few examples of challenging situations that can occur when a person is living with dementia. As a care partner, any of these could leave you feeling distressed, hurt, embarrassed, or unappreciated.
Would you like to know how to best respond to challenging situations? Would you like to be able to reduce the chance of future escalations and help the person living with dementia feel at ease?
View the full program and learn:
- which physical and emotional needs may be causing challenging situations
- how to figure out the problem, ease the discomfort, and calm the person in distress
- hands-on techniques to connect and comfort using visual, verbal, physical, emotional, and spiritual communication
- how to create a deeper and more meaningful care approach by using Teepa’s Six Pieces of the Puzzle™
Join the thousands of caregivers that have made their loved ones feel at ease with Teepa.

Excellent Teepa . I see many untrained people in MCU aggravating patients and residents . I did the hand under hand method etc.. I have established a beautiful relationship with a 92 year old lady … she loves when I visit … we have short happy conversations

This is so timely. My husband's bed-bound now and hates being rolled to check for or treat bed sores.

@@teepasnowvideos Truth be told, every time I'm alone with my grandfather, I definitely try interacting with him the way you show us. The thing is, I find myself to be the ONLY person trying your way, when it comes to care for people with dementia; it seems that I am the ONLY ONE, and everybody else around me focus more on completing the tasks than the feelings of the demented person him/herself!!!! The demented person just "has to cooperate" with us as we perform personal care on him/her. I'm sure that all this isn't new to you, and that you've encountered people who are solely task-oriented. How do you deal with those people? How do you avoid arguments with them?

@@teepasnowvideos I stopped taking my grandfather's blood pressure every day because I don't know how Teepa Snow would respond if he says no to taking blood pressure.
