A driveline is like a big multipart spring from the crank all the way to the tire tread. Each part has some twist on it in a bind like when the wheel lifts and spins and then sets back down hard. And every part has a breaking point where the torque exceeds the elastic strength and it start to deform and break. Sort of like fuses in a circuit. The tires absorb some of that. Next, the axles, not so much in the diff, the gears are pretty stiff, then the driveline and transfer case inputs (which broke on Matt's) the gears and chain in the transfer case take up some as do the transmission, the torque converter (if it's not locked) help isolate the crankshaft from sudden loads. The trick is to get that weakest part outside of all the expensive parts inside the engine, trans, transfer and diff, and not make the other parts too stiff so they can take up the shock. Kind of like those attachments to impact guns that limit the torque applied to bolts. Rory's had years to break parts and replace them with better ones, but not overly strong ones to get the right balance in his full driveline. Matt's just starting and with a much heavier vehicle. I suspect he may need a higher rear end ratio to reduce the torque on the transfer case and drive line and move the stress to the axles and tires and let them take up the driveline shock. Or maybe put something like 'cush' isolators in the driveline. Those who were there would know how the failures happened, was it wheel hop, or did the driveline hit rock, or something else? Or just brute force twisting the splines off the output shafts?

Rory doesn't have a hottie red neck girl for all the horn dogs to drool over.

I never thought I would see you helping a rival finish 2nd place, but here we are! Seriously, though Matt’s rig looks like a prehistoric sand crab. Very cool you got to trail test it

It's great that friends are there for each other even though you'll also soon be competitors. Great video!

Your an awesome friend helping Matt. Teaching him everything you've learned through years of experience.

Having trail mater along to tow in Matt's off road wrecker would be a sight to see.

Lockers a must on this beast. Nice seeing the rear steer used to gain traction!

I'm loving the editing on the start of this video, the combo of time lapse video with a edited audio overlay that occasionally synced up is fascinating.

Rory you are such a stud for helping Matt out with his wrecker. I know you and Matt banter back-and-forth but I truly believe Matt considers you one of his best friends.
