What would stopping the ingestion of carbohydrates do to diabetes? What if we just ate saturated fat and protein? What would that do to diabetes?

@@NIDDKgov What a terrible answer to a straightforward question. Especially after telling people to eat a "mix" of carbohydrates, fat, and protein. 🙄

We commend your efforts to manage diabetes. Eating the right amount of food will help you manage your diabetes and your weight. Your health care team can help you figure out how much food and how many calories you should eat each day. Medical nutrition therapy is a service provided by an RD to create personal eating plans based on your needs and likes. For people with diabetes, medical nutrition therapy has been shown to improve diabetes management. Medicare pays for medical nutrition therapy for people with diabetes (www.medicare.gov/coverage/nutrition-therapy-services). If you have insurance other than Medicare, ask if it covers medical nutrition therapy for diabetes. For more information about preventing diabetes problems, please visit our website at: www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/diabetes/overview/preventing-problems and for general information on diabetes please visit our website at www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/diabetes. I was diagnosed with gestanal diabetes. Once I gave birth I was led to belive that was the end of th ediabetes. However this occured twice after I delivered. I became a RN BS later in life and that is when i discovered I would become a diabetic. Well I was eventually diagnosed with Diabetes, One of the MDs was a endocrinologist. Visited her regularly and was placed on Metfomine. Was placed on insulin for one week when I was hospitalized. Stayed on the meds and eventually I developed chronic kidney disease. I attributed this to the metformine. I followed a close diet. Changed my diet and lost twenty pounds. Now that I am 84 years old I take no meds. Also have a pacemaker for the past eight years. Overall I feel fine however I feel I did not get the correct informaion when I had my last two children.

My generation(s) ages 70 and 80s.; losing weight is most frustrating. For example, losing weight to only gain it all back within 3-6 months is definitely frustrating. Numbness in one leg/ankle/ foot on one side makes walking and exercise with loss of balance and falls are frustrating. Eyesight is becoming blurry, especially reading and focus despite corrective lenses too often. Next step? Cateract screening? HELP!
