www.coffeytalk.com Lissa Coffey shares a story of meeting a homeless woman, and how she discovered ways to help the homeless. This includes buying backpacks from the thrift store and essential items like shampoo, socks, and peanut butter to fill the backpacks. The video includes a list of helpful items, and other ideas for ways that we can help those who are homeless in our own communities.

Good work Lisa, but there is an organisation called Backpacks for the Homeless that provides a backpack that folds out into a bed and a small tent. Waterproof, weatherproof provides warm dry shelter for homeless people. These were invented in Australia but are available in the US as well. $110 is the cost for one of these and assuming that they last 2 years that works out at about 15 cents per night to provide warm dry shelter for some poor homeless person. In this current crazy COVID time anyone can become homeless. Check it out.

great! You can take them to shelters, they know where the homeless are and can get to them. Or you can keep them in your car for when you see someone on the side of the road with a sign.

So glad to see you putting toilet paper into the bags.. most people forget about that. Also, there is something else people forget.. "female" items. (Meaning, pads/tampons) because they also need those items too. I was homeless last year at this time. This is something all of us women need. So, just an idea for next time you decide to make more backpacks. :) Have an Awesome Day!!!

Put the TP in a zip lock bag so it does not get wet when it rains.

Travel size bottles and tubes are far lighter than the full size items. Reusable rain poncho. Disposable hand warmers.

Hi! I thought about that - but the homeless need to be very careful about breakables... and the shelter I work with said they can refill the plastic bottles at their place. But it's a good idea! xo

What about underwear... though you don't know the size they need, and how do they wash their clothes? I would think that band-aids or small med kit would be useful?????
