I was an artillery crewman that joined a random artillery battery in war ~98, I was a loader, but when the commander went away for bed I volunteered, and had another rando spot for me. Playing a lot of milsim games I used a lot of artillery jargon on local chat, let’s just say it was perhaps the most cinematic and immersive experience, “Battery, target infantry in the open, azimuth 273, distance 178, fire 3 rounds… on target, fire for effect! Battery, adjust fire, left 265, distance 183, fire 3 rounds, on target fire for effect!” I think the most important part is to tell your crew what you’re firing at and give them updates on what’s happening, I find it lets them use their imaginations and have fun while doing a kinda boring job.

fr both factions needed this video. Those who know how to use artillery just "know" and with this massive influx of players about to experience their first 120mm bombardments they need to know what's involved

One of my favourite memories in foxhole was when i first played it. Me and my buddy thought we would join in defending a bridge. 7 hours later, many ear deafening shells later and i went to bed hearing arty in my brain. 10/10 reccomend

One tip i learned from a random guy on the front one day. If you have the time and materials it is wise to build a tier 2 bunker connected to the octagon, with in it an ammo rack. This way you can put your shells in there making it way more resistant against enemy fire
@HelpingHans19 күн бұрын
@SirTriton Ammo rooms are safer to store shells than on pallets but truck dropping them right next to the gun is much safer. I’d only really do ammo rooms if they’re concrete and you have howitzers nearby.

A lot of helpful stuff here including good practices. However I'm still confused about the spotting part. As far as I can tell Azimuth in Foxhole is basically just the compass bearing. The more the spotter distances himself from the gun, the less his distance and bearing matters, as it is only relative to his position. That basically means you form a triangle and to get an accurate distance and Azimuth (before correcting for wind) you'd have to use trigonometry requiring a calculator. With A being the artillery gun, B the spotter and C the target you'd have b² = c² + a² - 2ca cos(β) for distance and cos(α) = (b² + c² - a²)/2bc for Azimuth correction for B's Azimuth to A, meaning it would have to be added or deducted from B's Azimuth depending on which side the target is. I've never been good at math and it's been a long time since I've touched the subject to that extent but wouldn't you have to apply these formulas? I'm aware that there are artillery calculators and I'm guessing they are a requirement beyond the "winging it" range. Or does the dispersion become so random that at some point it's just "fire at that general direction"?
@HelpingHans Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't worry too much about the maths. Best thing to do is fire in the general direction you want to aim in and aim a bit short so you can see the shell land. Then just adjust accordingly.

0:58 i thought the "legs" of the gun should be able to be placed away from eachother. would be very wierd if you can't "deploy" them from transport to shooting wher the legs are apart from eachother.

What are the effects of scorched earth caused by artillery shelling?
@loginlover Жыл бұрын
All terrain in the game takes permanent damage from artillery. Naturally larger artillery rounds over long periods of time will cause a lot of scorched earth. What this does is both desaturate the world (think more depressing black and white with less colors) and most importantly it will cause player structures and bunkers to have much less health compared to un-scorched earth. This makes build-pushing into a hellscape pockmarked by impact craters and mud a nightmare to take as well as hold
@danielmartinezmartinez441 Жыл бұрын
by the way, interested in the use of rockets too!

Not to be nitpicky but Foxhole development team really needs to at least consult some basic terminology when it comes to certain artillery pieces especially on warships they're not measured in millimeters the measured in with what they call 125 mm Cannon is actually probably 15 in Naval guns
