The Helsdon Hammock is now available in Australia for only $450 plus GST and postage but email me for a deal. This is the simplest, quickest and most comfortable hammock I've ever had, which is why I now offer them here in Australia.

I like how you did this in ’real time’ so we can see exactly what is involved.

I also didn't rush as the whole point is to relax, right? It is still the fastest and easiest to set up I have ever had.

It is. It is very well constructed and designed, able to hold up to 185kg and it is super comfortable to sleep in. You can sleep on your side, stomach or back. I just use a $10 K-Mart foam mat and it has insulated down to 4C and I think I could get it a bit colder. Now I have to sell my Tier Gear Goshawk and Alton Ultralight underquilt as they are not needed. The Helsdon can. be opened out to enjoy the sun and views or close it down in bad weather. I loved it so much I became the Australian distributor!

Out of the classic bridge hammocks this is by far the most interesting product. However I still went with the Haven XL as I prefer sleeping on a near flat surface instead inside an "half pipe". Pumping up the matress on the Haven adds roughly 2 minutes but is worth the hours of sleep I'll enjoy afterwards. Your setup doesn't include any insulation whatsoever and would only be useful for taking a nap during the day.

I have both units and do like the Haven XL in some ways, the Helsdon in others and overall I prefer the Helsdon. SO long as the wind doesn't get up or ambient temps are 20C and up you don't need insulation. On out recent snow camp my daughter was cold in the Haven at -6C, even with insulation below the mat and on top of it. I find the mat loses air and thus shape every night. The Haven is better for 'hanging' out wth the raisable sides and all. Horses for courses, thanks for the comment.

@@fatmanfaffing4116 My Haven XL already came with the improved "True Level pad" which is thicker, has a tapered shape and supposedly more reliable too (well no leaks so far). I also got the Haven insulated pad cover that I felt was needed to go below 10°C, however due to the nature that you're lying on top of it (compressing the foam) it runs out of steam pretty quickly and my butt felt cold again when approaching 0°C outside. Since you've got both products, you should make a comparison video (setup, comfort, kit weight with air pad and insulation..)

thanks for the video, I am for the UK but was wondering what the hammock is like for sitting up out of the side. for example if you were making a coffee on the morning or even lounging around not wanting to lie down. can you help please ?

The outer and inner flys can be pushed back exposing the actual hammock but if raining while technically you can sit with your feet out, the suspension strap needs to be behind you and you'll get wet. What I do is set up a tarp overhead giving me standing room and I can either push back the flys or just sit on the edge and use it as a seat. I have a Pomoly titanium table on a monopod that is handy as a 'bedside' table, I can even screw a stove head into it with the canister under the table and cook while sitting in my Helsdon. The Haven is easier to do this in although the suspension strap along the side cuts into your thighs and the Helsdon is the better lay. For more versatile use I do reccommend using a tarp. Even a small one (say basha size) just barely over the centreline gives a nice covered area to chill under.

That is really useful thank you , My choice was between the Helsdon and the Haven and i was just worried i would not be able to sit on the edge as i have not seen that in any video i have seen , i want quick deployment and blowing up the Haven inflatable seems to add time . Believe it or not having cats is also an issue for me as i camp in the garden and im afraid the cats will burst the pad. May i ask what the range between trees is for the Hesdon please ?

@@markhunt1766 Minimum distance is 3.5m, maximum is 8m. The Haven straps are short so you need to add longer or extra ones. The Haven mattress is good quality and it comes in a bag that is also an inflator but yes, it takes time to inflate and you have to top up by mouth to make it really firm. If it isn't firm it loses shape and efficiency. I use a cheap closed cell foam mattress that is cat claw proof and in winter you could always use two, or throw in a mylar emergency blanket for more insulation.
