There's 3 types of trains. The oldest one, the m100, was made by Valmet and Strömberg and put to service in early 80's. The m200, which there are not many of, were made by Bombardier and put to service in the 2000's. And lastly, the m300 was made by CAF and put to service in the 2010's.

The idea was to save some costs by building shorter platforms on the western extension, as the metro would be automated anyways allowing for shorter headways and therefore increasing capacity. Automation failed, short platfroms stayed. Just like anything it politics, it was a compromise to sell it to the politicians.
