Yeah you can get lost in those tunnels, done that :) There's an access from Forum (2nd floor?) to Kamppi Center through the shopping corridors but easily missed. My own apartment block in Helsinki has two bomb shelters (mandatory) for the residents, used as a storage place normally. Also the underground railway station at the Helsinki airport has some massive structures, the escalators leading up to the terminal are not for the faint hearted :D
@theruudy Жыл бұрын
Haha, even after more than two years living in Helsinki still almost never can find that passage from Forum to Kamppi. And end up walking overground 😂😂 I think by law there have to be mandatory bomb shelters in every house or housing block. There is a huge system underground. That’s why they call it master plan 😊😏

In Helsinki, we realize the protection of the underground city, when we pass the entrance-exit of the underground car parks by the vehicle access, the doors that are open are visible, they are reminiscent of the NORAD doors at Cheyenne Mountain.
@theruudy Жыл бұрын
Hey, yeah! Underground car parks are part of the system. These doors are massive 💪

The were earliest underground structures in Helsinki date back to times when Finland was occupied but autonomous area of the Tsarist Russia, before 1917. There was e.g. sewage and freshwater tunnels, ammo caves, troop shelters, telephone and probably electric cables too.

We have our place 166meters underground in Myrskylä. Bird goes 88 km from Helsinki. There is nothing special about it 😮. There are thousands private owned places. And thousands bigger ones owned by public. All from cold war and beyond. 😊

Russian are waaay worse than any aliens, and they are itching to send their missiles and bombs into Finland. As a revenge for not wanting to become part of russia. 😢

But seriously , the Finns must know something bad is going to happen, they can protect the population. What other country is this concerned?
@theruudy Жыл бұрын
There is a big neigboor on Finlands east, that has caused some problems along the way. Maybe that’s the reason :)
@saaraa7876 Жыл бұрын
Every country will have stuff like this for the leadership, Finland just prepares these spaces for the people as well. However I will say not every city in Finland is prepared like this, I’m from Turku (though I currently live in Helsinki) and there we don’t even have public bomb shelters whereas Helsinki has enough of them to fit the entire population plus tourists. But the reason why Finland is prepared is obviously Russia.
@theruudy Жыл бұрын
@@saaraa7876 That’s a good point. Finland really takes care of its people. Well… what can I say, Turku have to step up the game 😂👌
@saaraa7876 Жыл бұрын
@@theruudy It’s a lovely city but Turku and building projects are a match made in hell, they’re all over-budget and in the end stuff doesn’t even work lol. They thought of making one of the parking garages a public shelter while they were building it but I guess they ran out of money cause eventually they decided nah…The confidence of being as far West as you can be in Finland I guess. 😅
