Helston Railway - A visit in 2014

Great news - the railway have won their planning appeal to be able to extend the line and improve the facilities. Congratulations to all concerned - this will be good for the local economy, a step forward in the preservation of the line, and another great attraction for the tourists & locals alike to visit. Common sense seems to have prevailed with the Planning Inspector.

A very well done to all those at the railway, I wish them every success in extending the line and as it has been said before regarding so many heritage railways, it will boost the local economy. It appears that many councils are now waking up to the fact that these heritage railways are a great addition and asset to the area for so many positive reasons. The Bluebell Railway in Sussex and the Welsh Highland Railway are fine examples and it now looks like the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway in North Devon is closely following behind!

Agreed, UKWMO. For the record I am nothing to do with Helston Railway but have visited and wish them every success.

Well done Helston...for restoring,what should never have gone in the first place? I see this all over the country....we ALL want our branch lines back. So pleased another line gets what it deserves...only wish I lived near enough to help in some way....keep up the good work!

Won't get very close to Helston. The school and housing estates built over where the line used to run into the station

I agree there is no chance (even if that were desirable) of returning to the original station site, but a station out by the industrial estate should allow for a car park to go with it. Helston has grown since the line closed!

Amazing what small groups of people can do against the Monopolist Planning Laws. Hope they get Helston reconnected to the NR network!

Nancegollan will be the difficult/expensive bit as the new development since the closure blocks the way.
