A little side note: both Unohana’s bankai and shikai share the name Minazuki. But they’re written differently so that the Shikai translates to “Blood drop” and Bankai translates to “End to everything”

Slight correction: The kanji for the Shikai is 肉雫唼 which means flesh/meat,droppings, speaking evil/ gobbling sound. When translated to Viz version it becomes "Flesh-Drops' Gorge". While the kanji for the Bankai is 皆尽, which means everything exhausts/expires. And the Viz version is "All Things End".

Since y'all finished the series already in Patreon, this is no longer a spoiler; Remember what Nimaiya said to Renji and Ichigo before they began the Asauchi test, "You don't even know what's the difference between a shinigami and zanpakuto". What he meant by that is they, at that time, still didn't get the message that a zanpakuto is basically a piece of your own soul inside the blade. Basically it's you/a part of you. That's why in the finale Ichigo said to Zangetsu, "You are me.", cuz he finally understood the relationship between a shinigami and a zanpakuto, they're one and the same. This is the same reason why Kenpachi was able to hear his zanpakuto for the first time in years. Cuz since then he suppressed his powers, meaning he didn't really accept who he was fully. And now that his limiters are gone, he has come to acknowledge that which is why he can hear his sword now, or more accurately he hears the part of himself that he once buried. Honestly the writing in Bleach is so beautiful.

This episode has everything bc in the flashback the one captain that is drunk was the previous captain of Sq 11 he’s a kenpachi too that our kenpachi defeated to be the current captain of Sq 11 and Unohana’s BANKai is fire and got the chills from the manga and the anime. Unohana’s Bankai shares in same name as her Shikai. Both Shikai and Bankai are called Minazuki but the characters to spell Minazuki are different in Bankai to now say “All things End!” Her Bankai Abilities are Blood manipulation to send flying blood slashes, using the blood to rapidly heal the user and restore damaged cells. Wildly swinging her sword created a blood barrier to repel attacks however with enough force you can overpower it like Zaraki did performing multiple slashes and you see the shield falls down

Unohana feels like a mother to Kenpachi. Her weakness changed him into what he grew to be, but then Mama admited her fault later in life and fixed it properly. It's her version of Maternal Love.

Unohana has always been Mommy. And the next two episodes of Bleach are the definition of peak anime. Even after having waited all these years for this to be animated.... The next episodes are among the ones I most wanted to see animated. Just fantastic story.

There's actually an interesting theory than Kirinji's Hot Springs were inspired by Unohana's Shikai and Bankai. Where Unohana's Shikai uses a clear fluid inside of MInazuki to heal people, and the blood from the Bankai Minazuki heals Unohana as well. So some of speculated that the Shikai and Bankai are the White Bone Hell and Blood Pond Hell, and they all coordinate with Unohana's desire to heal to keep fighting.

Them turning into skeletons is supposed to symbolize them stripping away everything about themselves an putting everything into their love of battle. Unohana can do that that’s why she becomes a full skeleton where as Zaraki is still holding himself back that’s why he only half transforms.

As a kid Zaraki fighting Unohana he mentally suppressed himself in order to not kill her too quickly and he never lost that mental block self nerf, the eye patch is merely a secondary nerf as he was still too strong to fight most enemies.

Her bankai is crazy is no acid like like a lot people think. the melting flesh thing was only representation of two killers enjoying fighting so much they stripping away everything to the core only bones. Her bankai is this pool of blood that she used as blades and also as defense cover. everytime she splash de blood they become blade coming at you if you slow the video you can see it also she use it as defense making blades to stop attack.

That was added for the anime. Maybe the blood blades were originally intended, but never shown in the manga. The melting being just a representation is a theory, but it's just as likely that it is, in fact, acid. She heals and kills over and over again, so it makes sense that she'd be doing that to both of them while melting them. All that's shown in the manga is her saying "Bankai", the two of them melting into skeletons, and then continuing the fight. There's never been a clear answer.

So if it wasnt clear, her bankai (Minazuki) releases an Acidic liquid that melts away flesh of her enemies, so she learned how to heal her so her battles dont end quickly. So she melts, heals, melts, heals until shes satisfied.

if you're bad at interpreting metaphors u'd surely think this, sure. Otherwise u'd understand her bankai is essentially blood manipulation and blood is not acidic and Zaraki was having an introspective epiphany that made him understand himself inside and out(hence the visualization panel with half his body as skeletal as he says "sou ka/i see").

Little info on Zaraki devotion to Unohana. When he first met his little pink haired lieutenants(child that follows him around)he gives her a name, Yachiru... Yachiru was Unohana's old name before she changed it to Retsu. "The name of the only person I ever cared for, I give it to you", Kenpachi tells her 👀. You can look at chapter 114 for clarification🤙🏼.

@@hessenic6862 You can certainly choose to believe that, but that's just one interpretation. I can think of a few others. Kubo loves making characters explain their own abilities, so the fact that we weren't given an explanation here, strongly suggests he wasn't too sure as to what he wanted her bankai to ultimately be. Ambiguous acid blood manipulation powers are cool, but none of the questions I had after my initial experience with this battle in manga format, have been answered by the anime adaptation.

It can heal both her and her enemys wounds so they can fight for a very very long time, which perfectly represents her bloodthirsty nature. If she didnt undo her bankai she could just heal herself and she wouldnt die . She already knew she reached her goal so thats why she did that.

To me kubo took a fat L on this one. It wasn't the worst but unohana was so cool and having her only fight be a training fight against kenpachi is disappointing. I'm not even totally against her losing to pass on her name to kenpachi but also to have her be weaker than him as a child is really dumb too. I get hes a monster but like that's a bit too much. Makes her look bad. But he had to come up with a reason ichigo was able to beat kenpachi with only his shikai back in soul society and this is what he thought up. It could be worse. If they animate the novels the dude that wrote those novels is a massive kenpachi stan. If he were writing the series kenpachi would've just won the war by himself. They did a good job with the animation but considering this is her only fight it shoulda been as good as yamamoto's one so both kubo and the studio disrespectin her. The fight should've been the whole episode too. like yama's. Either way the voice actor killed it. After like 8 years of waiting she came through. Oh and her bankai led to so many debates on how it works. The one time the character doesn't explain their power to their enemy and nobody can tell what it does. Still arguments to day but since the anime gave a clearer look it seems like them turning into skeletons is just symbolic for them shedding their restraints. It doesn't dissolve them.
