I’m working on a wedding dress and this was very helpful when adjusting the hem for keeping the train the same. Thanks so much!

Beautiful dress! So glad there are talented people like you to save the rest of us the stress of cutting into these dresses.😊

Thanks Linda! It is kinda stressful because I never want to mess one up irreversibly. So a lot of the time spent on it is just checking and double checking before I actually do anything.

Love the sew & knit gauge!!!!! I buy them when I can find them. Best in the world. I love your instructions. I do alterations, but I love watch videos. Always something to learn. I don’t shorten my linings, I keep them about 1/2” to an inch shorter. Just my preference.

Thanks for watching! Yes the beauty of sewing is you can do whatever you preference is! I love those little gauges too. Here are the ones we sell in the shop :) - www.shoppindrop.com/shop/c/p/Sewing-Gauge-x56770175.htm

Hi, thanks for watching! I am always interested in how other people do things too! Would you have done this like this?
@jmjcc58 ай бұрын
@@pindropshop Yes. I just finished two bridesmaids dresses, hemming and pressing the same way. The dresses were made out of full sequined fabric. It was not difficult to hem. Thank you again.

Thank you for the video. My daughter has a pageant in 3 days and during rehearsal she saw another girl has her same dress now switching to dress that has a train and still needs to be hemed. Your video has given me reassurance.

Thank you so much for this video! I'm hemming my sons girlfriends prom dress for TOMORROW! It's almost the same exact dress just a different color and the one I have has horsehair along the bottom that is misbehaving. So I will be cutting that off and hemming it 6 inches :-) Wish me luck!

I use the cut offs to cover hangers.add a ribbon bow or some lace if it's plain fabric. Makes a lovely gift.

I have never though about doing that but that is a great idea!

Curious what needle you use (size, type)? Or any insight you have on that aspect. Great job!
@pindropshop7 ай бұрын
If any of the layers are a stretch knit you should use a Ballpoint needle. Certain synthetic knits will require a Stretch needle though or you will have skipped stitches. Woven fabrics will just take Universal needles. The 70/10 size is good for the fine tightly woven fabrics. Here are the Schmetz needles I use - www.shoppindrop.com/iishop?form_version=2&search_keyword=schmetz Hope that helps, thank you so much for watching!

I’m making a mock up of a skirt pattern that I added a train to and then realized I need to hem the front. It would have been better to measure my pattern and get closer to the right length first but what are mock ups for except to find the issues in a paper pattern 😅🤷🏻♀️

Exactly! But glad it's coming together!

I offer to clients to use in flowers or hair. I also use them in Angel Gown accents.

Those are all great uses for the scraps. I hadn't thought of angel gowns but that's a nice way to use them.

I do alterations for people for bridal needs and prom. I also do alterations for zippers etc. I would love to know how much you will charge for a dress like this?
@pindropshop8 ай бұрын
As of right now 2024 I charge $30 per layer to hem formal dresses. If it has beads or excessive sequins or horsehair it goes up.

It is a lot of work! Especially when you're still figuring out how to do it! Did you do it in a similar way?

I am confused on how the train does not end up too long, did this dress have a train to begin with? My daughter's dress has an existing mini train.
@pindropshop7 ай бұрын
They wanted to keep the train like this. It did have a small train to begin with and they didn't want to lose any of it.
@pindropshop7 ай бұрын
If you wanted to keep the train mini, you could just take some off the back in approximately the same amount you took off the front. That would maintain the intended train-to-front of dress length ratio, and make it really still a mini train.
