This just serves to emphasize how critical a dagger or wakazashi was when facing a close range. Close range, grapple, drop main weapon, pull dagger and stab stab stab. The half swording was also really cool to see during the grapple.

I've found that Judo leg/foot sweeps & reaps are a good supplement to longsword combat.
@superiorhema3 жыл бұрын
Yep your right, although you don't need to call them Judo because the Manuscripts teach all different ways to do it. I don't practice Judo though, so maybe they have some different specifics, but I've taught medieval wrestling and had people say "I've seen that in Judo!".

Technically judo is developed from multiple Jiu-Jitsu arts which was used in battlefield but European equivalent will be Greco-Roman wrestling
@aaronnieborak44552 жыл бұрын
Greco roman wrestling was developed in France in the 1960's , its deffinatly not the equivalent. The European equivalent is kampfringen the German equivalent anyway

If you study the old manuscripts wrestling and grappling even with a weapon was actually a huge part of training

I fucking burst out laughing at at 0:25 when the short girl came running with the staff. The comedic timing as the fighters run out of frame and she just charges in got me good. xDDD

Sharing with my club. This is a really good record of average grapples in longsword.

lol someone tell me what that girl is doing jumping in with her spear?
@superiorhema3 жыл бұрын
Lol you can see Red Castors comment below. Had the same question. "That was an actual tournament exchange. She was the Ref/official and was stopping the exchange. Having the spear or staff stems from old images of fencing halls and tournaments in the 1400s-1700s where the Ref would hold a staff. Likely as a symbol, and that it "could" be used to separate people while out of range."

Oh wow, Canada? Relatively more Canadian HEMA channels compared to other topics. Guess this is what we get for lacking the second amendment.

Lol, that and I guess all the clubs are far away and less populated. So more online presence. I'm curious what specifically gave it away with this video?

@@superiorhema The maple leaf on the roof : p. Before Covid, Blood and Iron was 15min drive from where I am, and another club was 10min walk. Now they're gone. So yeah, haha, very true now that clubs are spread out. I'm starting out in HEMA, picking a sword type / manual, and looking at gear. Your reviews of sparring weapons gave me a sense of what I should look for in a sparring weapon. Your tutorials and sparring are very educational as well. Thank you

@@DecoyJayc Ah didn't even notice it, I know there's Canadian things in other vids. That would've been good if they were up and running, dang. For me it would be 6hrs into US, or 9hrs West, or 14hrs East to the nearest HEMA clubs. I'm glad you found HEMA and are starting on the path, and glad the videos help out.

She seemed desperate to get in between in before any clinch techniques could take place. A local rule to separate them immediately or what?
