This small duel is made of two sparring sessions with Philipp Lechner (Philipp in red and golden legs, me with the brown plush trousers). He is one of the best german longsword fencers and already won the german longsword titel in 2022. Yes I beat him with the Zweihänder / Montante a couple of times, but he is defenetly the faster and deadlier fencer with longswords. I had to close the distance as fast as possible to beat him in close combat. The sword is made by Sigi Forge. sigiforge.com/products/sigi-montante/

For context Dequitem(brown legs) and me (golden Legs) had almost 4 Hours of sparring in the burning sun.. where we could tear into each other with these huge montantes… I can really say kudos to you Dequitem for being a very skilled fencer with excellent grappling and the stamina and power of a real athlete. Really pushed ourselves to the Limits here, and I took Home a Lot of learnings from our sparrings Maybe we can repeat that someday

the online HEMA community as a whole seems to say high intesity sparring with steel Montantes is wholly unsafe. glad to see you dont subscribe to that idea
@dequitem3 ай бұрын
Video exactly about that topic at Saturday!
@BernasLL3 ай бұрын
I'm sure they subscribe to it to some degree. You can always do more dangerous stuff with a partner you can trust, this isn't random sparring. And you're not seeing the flow you see so often in montante manuals, they likely both agreed to limitations. I guess we'll have to find out Saturday :)
@kaoskronostyche99393 ай бұрын
I wonder how many of the "online HEMA community" are actually out their in gear sparring. I doubt it. Two of the largest so-called "HEMA" channels are run by fat puer aeternus who do not train but present themselves as experts. So I would question anything. I read a long thread by a little boy explaining in detail how swords are used by cavalry from the horse showing clearly he DID NOT know what he is talking about. Anyway ... I think I have seen Montante sparing elsewhere and it looked safe enough to me. But then don't listen to me - I don't train either (no club near me) so what do I know? I would train lots if I had the chance.

Awesome. Youre like the only other person out there Ive seen that will spar with steel montante in contemporary gear. First time I bought mine I got told (with the exception of my instructor) by the HEMA community as a whole that its too unsafe to spar with at full speed, that it will "shred the fencing mask" and other such things. I've been working on a video since about April on a different channel. I hope if you dont mind mentioning your channel and this video specifically to help illustrate the points Im making in regards to safely sparring with the steel trainer Montante.
