Javed Ali is such a wonderful singer; he hasnt won a Filmfare award simply because he is fantastic. Wish Bollywood engages him more. And what an orchestra! The arrangements, the orchestration and the coordination is so awesome. Helps see how music is a team sport and that there are magicians behind the stage as well.

When Rafi Saab sings some choice songs (Na Ja Kahin Ab Na Jaa, being one of them) it's like he is channeling the voice of God. He takes in a volume of air in his lungs and uses it to resonate his vocal chords to produce the right tone with the right amplitude, the right pitch, the right intonation, etc. to modulate the sound that comes out. That voice has a tonal quality that perhaps less than one in a billion possesses. So, right off the bat, your voice has at best a 75% chance of matching his. Now, to that you add inflection. Just listen to how he makes "Naa jaaaa kahin ab na jaaaaaaa.." come out. Then there his Urdu talaffus. Compare your "Khulai khulai yeh gay-ay-ay-soo" to Rafi's "Khulay Khulay yeh gay-ay-ay-ay-suuu" to his and you'll understand what I mean. Enunciation was very important for Rafi Saab and his fans. Finish it off on a high with "Wafa deti hai sadaaaaaaa" with every ounce of air in your lungs, remembering that you need to inhale a fresh volume of air--silently--to prepare for the mukhda without aspirating audibly. That comes with years of riyaaz. So, don't feel bad. Actually, you are quite good and you have the looks, the attitude, and stage presence as other intangibles that you can customize to enthrall your audiences. The closer you come to sounding like Rafi Saab, the more we will consider that you are paying tribute and homage to the maestro
