wow I never thought I'd be intrigued by a rare jewel cichlid species, but love the deep color of the males and how the blue jewels are limited to the fins. Are these available in the US?

How do these do in a planted aquarium or with tankmates?

Hemichromis are not the best community fish, because they breed easily, and then need a fair size territory. They don't bother plants too much. Where they come from (Lake Turkana) there are not many actual aquatic plants.

@@belowwaterwell. I have 4 fish in 112L akwarium. I just wanted to make sure it will be one pair. But in my opinion i have 2 pair. One of it i will get to new tank. But The problem is that they are fighting each other i mean the male is fighting with female (no 1 pair vs another pair) when one Day before it it was a pair. Should i separate and leave only one fish to take Care about of fry? Another pair is still in The same tank, but They are ignoring each other. Anyway i will take Them tomorow to new aquarium because propably they will have Kids soon too. And i don't know what should i rly do? Should i keep actually parrents Togeter and let them fight? Od jest leave only one fish with fry and rest of it take to another tank? Or leave fry alone?

@@gacek5658 if you want to maximize the fry you raise, but not have the parents fight, don't remove them all. When you go to take the fry, it is best in the "cluster" stage when they are free swimming, feeding but still in a tight ball. Siphon or net out 80% or so, leave the others with the parents. Taking them all leads to fights. I would only keep one pair in a tank that size, and have plenty of hiding places.

@@belowwatereventually (tomorow) there will be only one pair in tank, I bought 4 because I wanted them to pair up by themselves. but the problem is that the male fights the female, who had been guarding the eggs together an hour earlier... do i separate 'father' from 'mother' and she is still taking Care about eggs alone. Father is in 'cage'. I hope you understand what i mean.. My English isn't so perfect :/

@@gacek5658 the male is in charge of defending the territory, so if no other fish are present, it leads to him doing other things. You could try 2 things: a - put another tank directly next to it, with an active fish that will be seen by the male frequently. It could be another pair, or even a goldfish. b - try adding a strong fish that could handle some attacks by the male but won't eat the babies. Something like a kissing gourami or 2 giant danios often works. It will focus the males attention on keeping potential predators from the nest, instead of trying to take over the female's job.
