Releasing its latest batch of financial data last week, Netflix revealed that more people watched its new series Hemlock Grove in its opening weekend than tuned in to the political thriller House of Cards in its first few days on the platform. While the streaming site won't reveal viewership numbers, it's clear that the series, from Gaumont International Television, has generated a tremendous amount of buzz since its premiere last week. Adapted from the novel of the same name, the horror thriller-about werewolves, family politics and murder in a small town-marks the first television outing for noted film director (and sometimes actor) Eli Roth. The opportunity to make an edgy, out-of-the box show for a non-traditional platform was alluring to Roth, who also relished the prospect of putting together a series with the phenomenon of binge viewing in mind. Roth, together with the show's stars Famke Janssen and Bill Skarsgård, spoke to TV Drama Weekly about Hemlock Grove, which was introduced to the global market by Gaumont International Television earlier this month.
