If you're like me and you grew up in the 80s, marvelling over the Tamiya catalogue, you looked at things in three categories.
1. The things you actually might buy: 1/24 static car models etc.
2. The things you'd love and might one day get for Christmas if you're very lucky: 1/10 RC buggies etc.
3. The fantasy items that you'll only ever dream of owning: the large scale F14 Tomcat, the metre-long USS Enterprise aircraft carrier and a 1/16, fully-functioning RC tank.
Well, I may still be no closer to my yearning for more Top Gun action in my living room but I've gone and bought myself a tank. Yes, a tank!
I picked it up from Knowles Models for £150 and at that, it seemed too good a bargain to miss.
It's got sounds, it's got smoke, it fires BBs and has an infra-red battle system too. Oh and it looks great as well.
So what's it like?
I think it's brilliant. As with anything in life, it's about balancing reality and expectation and on that count it's an easy win for £150.
You can certainly pick them up online from somewhere like AliExpress but I'd suggest speaking to your local model shop and seeing if they can get them for you.
Then you can step back in time, get the paint brushes out and set to doing some weathering!
A big thanks to Tyrone at Knowles Models for the great service when buying the tank. Keep up the good work!
