This year marks the 80th anniversary of the invasion of Allied forces in Normandy.
That day, better known as D-Day, was the beginning of the end of
World War 2.
All together around 200000 soldiers died in the liberation of Europe.
It is with the greatest respect that I would like to pay tribute and honor these brave soldiers who liberated our grandparents from Hitler's Nazi regime. Let us never forget and remember them forever.
Located on the hills in the beautiful landscapes of the ‘Pays de Herve’ in the province of Liège, the American cemetery at Henri-Chapelle is one of more than 30 military cemeteries of Allies spread across Belgium, France and the Netherlands. This cemetery is the final resting place of almost 8000 American soldiers who died during the Battle of the Bulge (Ardennes Offensive)
The entrance gallery contains the names of another 450 soldiers whose bodies were never found.
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish (John 10:28)
*Please note: I’m aware of the fact that it’s forbidden to fly drones above the cemetery area of Henri-Chapelle. This is to maintain the peace and safety of visitors during their visit to the cemetery.
90% of the images I made were taken during the evening, several hours after closing time. There was no one present on the property at the time these images were taken. The daytime images in the cemetery itself were taken with a handheld camera, with the exception of the images of the waving flag.
