The horn playing by all 4 players in this recording is absolutely incredible.

Oh hi! I think I’m recording this in December and came to KZbin in search of a recording and here you are! Thanks!

How cool, Holly! Unfortunately this score doesn't have the vocal line in. Looking forward to hearing your version ;)

George N. Gianopoulos I actually sang it live about 4 years ago and still have the PDF. It was tough to find because I didn’t know I was looking for a larger work. The Phil did it a few years ago so I contacted their soprano.

Locally? Would have killed to hear it live. Tomasi's music is seldomly performed but I connect with it a lot. Curious to learn more about your recording!

@@hollysedillos9643 Hi Holly - would you be willing to share the PDF of that soprano/choral part? I'd be happy to send you my email if so. =)

Heard this piece performed, without vocals, in the stunning Basilica of St. Josaphat in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, and it was a truly great performance that took advantage of the church's seemingly boundless acoustics. Alas, unfortunately, I couldn't truly appreciate the performance because I was unfamiliar with the piece at the time.

When studiying this score keep in mind he is using the old bass clef for horn 4 and that the first horn part is very difficult to perform live without flaws.

Yep, as a pro horn player myself, it's always been a mystery that the notations in bass clefs is always an octave lower than the actual notes. Personally, I rewrite these kinds of parts in treble clef, with the "8va basso" indication for the low notes.

So is the first trombone part.

What a low horn part, fantastic

This piece actually appears in an opera by Tomasi, not sure what was first. I guess the voices were added with the opera, or else the brass piece was extracted out of the opera without the voice for practical reasons.

Very nice! I think I'm going to study the score to learn. Btw, why does the vocal part not appear in the score of mvt. IV?
@zachmon244 жыл бұрын
I believe Tomasi added the vocal line after he finished the original piece, so we're seeing the first edition before he added the vocal line

First time hearing this with soprano and choir, fantastic! I also like this version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZjKh52IZ9B2kLc, especially the trombone in part 2.
