Sam and Henry converted an old ambulance into a "team bus" (I think it was a camper van when they got it) Took the Quarter Master with them for another run. Sam beat Henry's record then Henry absolutely blitzed it All for the sakes of the team bus with spanners on site

I owned and raced this bike in the early 1980s. Bought it of the guy who designed and built it - Norman Ashwood from Kidderminster - for £200. I later sold it on to Richard Evans in Bromsgrove, who raced it for another couple of seasons. I did send Henry Cole an email detailing as much history as I had on the bike, but he never replied.
@HenryColeTV Жыл бұрын
Hi Jack. Sorry that you didn't receive a reply to your email. Henry receives literally thousands of emails and there aren't enough hours in the day to answer every one. Anyway, thanks for taking the trouble to provide a bit of history - it is appreciated. All the best, Team Henry

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea !" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?"

Wow, now that's fun! I have to say, I was surprised at the numbers. Always having been a fan of Burt Munro since Donaldson's film (and docu), seeing half of his speeds on a supercharged 500cc nitro bike was unexpected. Granted, Burt's work was extensive, and no doubt he was in another class, especially for displacement, but I recall hitting 115 MPH (clocked on a Corvette), not topped out, on my '77 XS650 Yamaha, essentially a 60's British twin, bone stock, only a bit larger and on pump regular with my chest in the wind. I know I'm missing something, as this was a record speed for it's class.

Clocked on a Corvette ? What sort of motorbike is a Corvette ?
@hondolane31252 жыл бұрын
@@waynepantry7023 The four-wheeled kind made by Chevrolet. A friend I was following took off unexpectedly to "loose" me, and as I was rather busy catching up, I refer to his speedo reading when he backed off, at 115 MPH. I was actually closing on him at the time, so my speed was slightly higher than that.

Used to regularly do 100mph two-up on a near standard T140E Bonnie on a straight bit of dual-carriageway back in the day. Surely a blown drag bike MUST be good for 130mph at least?!

@@984francis Er no, the speed is merely measured through 1/8 of a mile. There's one mile run up to get up to speed on an airfield main runway. Just face it Henry and his mate are as slow as your grannie.

The video description says that it's a favourite clip from Season 6 of The Motorbike Show, which would make it a clip from 2016. And by "Max," I assume you mean Zef Eisenberg--his racing team was Madmax. He died on October 1, 2020 when he was trying to set a speed record at this same location RAF Elvington, Yorkshire. His car flipped and crashed. He had previously survived a motorcycle crash in 2016, again at Elvington, at the modest speed of 234 mph.
