My son is an evolutionary biologist and tells me if we go back 13 generations or so we are related. I haven't worked out the math myself but perhaps he has. I do know that here in the Northeast, most of the families had 6 to 12 children and marriages between cousins and second cousins were quite common.

Let's not forget that Sunny was on, "Finding Your Roots," with Henry Louis Gates, Jr; where she found out that one part of her family tree were ancestors who were Slave Owners and sold slaves, and immigrant slaves. Sunny was so in disbelief that in her bloodline and family tree had ancestors who owned and sold immigrant slaves. Even though she said she admits it and she accepted it in front of the camera on "Finding Your Roots," but when on The View, she did not even said about one part of her family tree were ancestors of owned and sold slaves. She never wanted to admit or to accept that in her ancestry and bloodline there were ancestors of Slave Owners. While this is very touching, and some might view this as political, the fact remains that we are all immigrants. I've always said that we need to know and understand our past so we know where we're going. There was a time in history when immigration and migration were forced and deliberate. All races were involved in this process. Now, we are still at a point where this is occurring. I do believe that it should be done in decency and in order to maintain the dignity of individuals and systems/ rules/ laws in place. Understand too that the grace you deny others, you might need one day.

Everyone is an immigrant, but, country was built, to govern, to protect their people from the outside, to regulate peace from the inside.. and in return the citizens pay taxes to fund the government to basically to do these things.. If saying “were all immigrants” and use it politically… then no one is allowed to be anywhere, your house that you bought is not yours.. because the land that you bought is not the owner’s to begin with.. Even native americans comes from asia, so theyre not even initial owner of the land.. they also migrate.. The GGM I mentioned, her line is the only one to my knowledge that didn't have any, only black and Native American. Since I've been working on my family history for quite some time, I feel confident that I know enough American history. By the way I've already done my Ancestry profile, so I'm pretty set on my racial identity. 😉

There were few immigration laws until 1882, and given the number of people arriving then, they were barely enforced for some years, so you don't really have a point here. Also, almost all of my ancestors arrived before that point, and I don't consider that we are descended from "legal" immigrants. They were lucky enough to arrive before the laws were created and enforced, and I'm fortunate to be here.
