Henry Paul of BlackHawk | In The C&I Studios with Joe Leydon

Country music band, BlackHawk, have returned to the music scene with the upcoming release of never-before-heard songs from the early days of their career.
Blue Highway, set for release on Friday, June 24 via BFD / Audium Nashville, features twelve archival tunes from 1992 - but only recently were the tunes mixed and mastered with the addition of bass, drums, electric guitar and mandolin.
The upcoming compilation features the vocals of all three original members of BlackHawk: Henry Paul, Dave Robbins and the late Van Stephenson, who died of cancer in 2001. All twelve album cuts were written by the trio.

Henry, you and Dave did a outstanding job on this project. It is really cool that you got van in his memory back in the fold for true Blackhawk fans. Can’t wait to see you guys in May at Shipshewana. Hopefully you’ll do some cuts off that record.

I can understand completely what Henry is saying. Its the same thing thats going on today in country. If you aren't playing what the executives think is the proper formula you don't get played on radio. With that said, Alan Jackson is an excellent songwriter and had many of those hits already written when he came to Nashville. He wasn't writing to please executives. He had already had life experiences when he came to Nashville and thats how those songs came to be. He wasn't writing to please anyone. Now, today, and especially during the "bro country" era, its clear that writers pandered to what they thought people wanted to hear. Artists like Cody Johnson who is more a neo traditionalist has survived and risen to the top because thats what the fans want to hear. Not generic songs about tailgating and giving a ride to a girl in your truck.
