I restored an LE in the early 80's. It was a local one owner with an original Log Book and less than 7k miles. It was in bits, had a cracked head from freezing. It was seized solid and it took me ages to free it! When it was free the rings were broken but I didn't want to have it re bored so took a year or so to find original genuine rings .. I took my time with it and when I got it on the road I loved it to bits and it was great for a summer evening potter around the countryside.

I just got a Mk2 LE restoration project. It's well bodgied about and the engine is in a terrible state and I haven't even got down to the crank yet but it should all be restorable (I hope). Very weird little bike but really interesting layout and technology. I've heard they are getting more popular with the aging bikers who can't quite manager their big old classics anymore but I am not sure that's true or not!

Velocette made the LE engine for a military generator in WWII, flat twins were popular for the genny's as they had a smooth power output.

Not true, thy did a LE generator engine for ice cream vans in the 1960s but it wasn't a success. Over 30,000 LE were produced more than all the Vipers Venom and Thruxtons put together.
