ayo Henry’s a real one for directing the film, but the movie is based on a book written by Neil Gaiman, creator of Sandman (arguably his best work); the cool part about this was Neil was very much included in the process of creating the film.

If you listen to the father’s song, you’ll notice that he is warning coraline about what mother plans to do. Also if you look at the words “welcome home” on the cake, you’ll notice that the word welcome has a regular cursive o while the word home has a loop inside the o. According to the rules of cursive writing, if a word has a loop inside the o, it means that whoever wrote it is lying. So the cake is telling coraline that she is “welcome” but she is not “home”.

The reason that they stiffed the movers, have crap food, and the mother refused to buy the gloves is because they're broke due to being in an accident. Coraline's mother was wearing a neck brace at the start of the movie, and Coraline start said that it wasn't her fault. They're in a better mood after they get paid for the work they were doing.

You sure it not just them being cheap and also because since they just move they didn't have time to do groceries. Because they never did say they were having money problems.

I would say they cheaped out, not stiffed them. When you stiff someone or someplace, that's the same as one would dine and dash. In other words, not paying at all. In the book this is clearer, but the Other Mother is just a parasite or a spider considering her appearance and she is living inside the true monster. We don't know what the true monster is, but when Coraline goes through the door for the first time in the book, she says that whatever it is, it is older than the Other Mother and is aware of her.
@zeph5256 Жыл бұрын
I always thought the space between the doors looked like an esophagus.
@kevinneutzling82676 ай бұрын
One reason the Other Mother comes on so strong and creepy is that she’s starving. Her last victim was the sweet Ghost Girl who was the sister of Grandma Wyborne. After her sister disappeared she locked up the door, subdivided the home, and refused to let anyone who had kids rent the apartments-until maybe she got a bit senile or made a mistake with Coraline’s family. The Other Mother probably usually waits weeks before offering the button eyes but based on the age of the house and the images of the ghosts, she was likely overdue for a meal and jumped the gun too early.
@Frostknight2313 ай бұрын
What is the duration for her to be hungry because each of those kids looks at least 50 years apart
@Cynnful_Designs3 ай бұрын
my theory is that the parents lied about coraline since the rent is probably more reasonable there for a sizable space, since the parents are going thru a hard time theres a high chance that they lied about coraline- but again just a theory

After Henrys academic studies, he went to work for Walt Disney Studios as an "in-betweener" and animator trainee on such films as Pete's Dragon and The Small One. During his time at Disney, he met and worked around the likes of Rick Heinrichs, Jorgen Klubien, Brad Bird, John Musker, Dan Haskett, Sue and Bill Kroyer, Ed Gombert, Andy Gaskill, and Tim Burton. Burton served as producer on Selick's first two films as director, the Disney-produced The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach. Years later, Selick claimed he learned a lot to improve his drawing, animation, and storytelling skills from Disney legend Eric Larson. If and if im not mistaken he directed alive in wonderland 2010

The focus on buttons for eyes comes from long held human beliefs that "The eyes are the window to the Soul" and other things such as If you take a picture of yourself it can capture your soul or essence through the eyes. I've never seen anybody else talk about this so I guess I'll say it first here but The Other Mother has limited ancient power, someone else explained correctly but though she's ancient she lives inside an even more ancient evil. She can manipulate only illusions around her not the real thing therefore she cannot permanently make real eyes because that is the essence of the soul and she cannot create or even replicate a soul. That's why everything has buttons in this world, they are empty illusions, copies and replicas of real things that exist. This theme is also explored in The Chronicles of Narnia (NOT the movie the books) i forget exactly which chronicle right now but The White Witch has a similar explanation where like Lucifer in the bible for example she tries pathetically to copy or mimic God and she can only make small pathetic knockoffs and illusions and has to hide the "real world" from those who look in order to trick them into thinking her creations are actually brilliant. So she can make a bright lamp for example, but she cannot actually make the sun. And she can copy what already exists but never, never make anything brand new/from scratch. I love how ancient these sort of themes are

The trinket Coraline takes to see through is a hag stone; rocks with natural holes in them, commonly found near rivers and beaches. They have a lot of pagan significance, because a) by looking through the hole you can see what’s really there, as opposed to a fairy spell, and b) they prevent bad luck, since only good spells can get through the hole

A, book is way creepier. There I said it. B. I appreciate how this movie is basically both a be careful what you wish for story but also a stranger danger story. "She lured as away with treasures and treats and games to play. Gave us all that we asked but we still wanted more."
