Henry Taylor: In the Studio

In Somerset, the American artist shares a preview of his latest paintings and sculptures ahead of his first exhibition with Hauser & Wirth. Henry Taylor extended and unraveled his practice over the winter months spent in Bruton, Somerset, as artist-in-residence. Working in the studio through the national lockdown, Taylor’s gaze turned inwards, creating new self-portraits such as his depiction as Henry V, a play on his childhood nickname.

" the hardest thing to do is to sit with a feeling" that's something I heard in one of your videos. Yet, you're saying "glad you got past the racial stuff", what do you mean exactly? Those are feeling he had to sit with and probably still does. He's a man of a certain age who has sat with the "racial stuff" for a long time and painted it out and may need to go back and forth. I don't think anyone gets past the " racial stuff."
