LYRICS
Well, the sun is surely sinkin’ down
But the moon is slowly risin’
So this old world must still be spinnin’ ’round
Yes, and I still love you
So close your eyes
You can close your eyes
It’s all right
I don’t know no love songs
And I can’t sing the blues anymore
Yes, but I can sing this song
And you can sing this song when I’m gone
It won’t be long before another day
We’re gonna have a good time
And no one’s gonna take that time away
You can stay as long as you like
Only close your eyes
You can close your eyes
It’s all right
Oh, I don’t know no love songs
And I can’t sing the blues anymore
Sure, but I can sing this song
Yes, and you can sing this song when I’m gone

I am quite certain that I have never publicly Commented on KZbin and only limited posts on other social media platforms. However, I have been a James Taylor devotee since 1969 and I have been to scores of his concerts over the years I just have to add a comment. My three girls were brought up on his music and my grandchildren are listening to it now, most recently as the center focus of my wife’s departure from this earth 12 days ago. She (Cloma) and I talked about this song a lot but in the context of being played and recognized at my funeral… Never thinking she would pass before me. Anyway… A beautiful song, a beautiful rendition by father and son in a song that’s seared (in the best of ways) into my memory and soul. Thank you for a lifetime of music, James.

You and Cloma seem to have had a most beautiful relationship and your soulmate will always be walking by your side in spirit. James Taylor always seemed like such a low key, loving person and his music gives me such joy and pause to introspect the meaning of my existence.

Absolutely wonderful. I remember the first time I heard James Taylor, first year at university, sitting in a dorm room studying, when this voice came over the radio. I’d never heard anything like it and I’ve loved that voice ever since. Often, when I hear that voice, I’m transported back to that very quiet night and my sense of wonder at that clear, melodic voice. I’m delighted that the next generation may follow along.

This song is so special to me, my mother was hospitalized June 1st, 2013, after several hard falls in 2012 & 2013, her kidneys stopped working, due to blockages in both intestines. I sat by her bed in ICU with my sisters and we sang to her often, this was one of my favorite songs to sing her, when she was in a coma. 27 surgeries and over 5 months in hospital, with a relapse of C-Diff in 2016, it’s 2023 and she is still here, she has been caretaking our dad who has dementia 🙏🙏🙏

It is such a beautiful memory for me. My dad was born the same day and year as JT. He had ALS at the time but wasn’t diagnosed yet. My younger brother introduced me to James' music back in the 1970's. I recall my brother singing this song from time to time over the decades. It evokes such sweet memories for me, since I recently lost him due to a rare, incurable cancer.

This song has gotten me through some tough emotional times. Mud Slide Slim & the Blue Horizon - what a great album. I've grown up with James Taylor's music. JT puts the "true" in American Troubadour and I think I've seen him live more than any other musician or band. An artist of vision, integrity and heart. I love the way he looks at his son as they sing together. Henry's singing and playing is great to experience.

So sorry for your loss. I sang this song to all three of my sons, as lullabies! My first son Kurt, hit in a crosswalk and killed at age 29, in 2006 in January. I began a teaching job this week, and to calm one of my littles without sight, staff stated he was calmed by James T. Music. This song came along on the loop, And I sang along.. I have sung this song for my children for over forty years now. What a gift to sing it to my new little kiddos ❤touched my heart deeply and boy were they surprised their new teacher knew every word. The power of love and music. Thank you James Taylor ❤ and my sons who listened to me sing his song Kurt, ❤James Adam and Karl…

I am so glad that the torch is being passed on to his son and the younger generation will be able to enjoy the wonderful music that we had growing up... Many of my best memories as a teen, were of making music with my father; him leading small ensembles on guitar and/or vibraphone, and me backing him up on bass. There's a very special communication that takes place between father and son in that situation. How much greater it must be when they're sharing a family songbook like the Taylors. All the best to James, and especially to Henry as he finds his place in the world and in the unspoken words, glorious colours, and infinite textures of music itself.
