Henry VIII’s Lost Brother, Prince Arthur | Not Just the Tudors

During the early part of the sixteenth century England should have been ruled by King Arthur Tudor with his wife Catherine of Aragon as Queen. Had the first-born son of Henry VII lived into adulthood, his younger brother would never have become King Henry VIII and married - and divorced - Arthur’s widow, and the subsequent history of England would have been very different.
In this edition of Not Just the Tudors, Professor Suzannah Lipscomb talks to Dr. Sean Cunningham, author of Prince Arthur: The Tudor King Who Never Was, in which he surveys Prince Arthur’s life and assesses what type of king he might have become.

Wait...when he said "they probably tried to have a baby," was that just a throwaway comment about Katherine's not being pregnant and the issues that may have caused, and he didnt think of the implications of his statement, or is he saying that, from his very knowledgable perspective, he actually believes the marriage was consumated????

Oh for sure. He would've stayed with Katherine their entire lives. I'm sure KoA would've made him a strong leader because she was the daughter of strong Monarchs. There would've been no 6 wives though 😕. Maybe Arthur and KoA would've had more children 🤷‍♀️... it's always nice to think about but sadly there is no historical fiction written about it and hardly any fanfiction. 😢

A theory about Arthur’s death that I’m thinking of, is that Henry VIII had Arthur poisoned due to jealousy.

Henry viii was a child under 10 yrs at that time i doubt he killed his brother who was days ride away especially when life changed completely for henry when he went from spare to heir

Arthur was trained and disciplined by men to be king while Henry had a much easier life, very much in the company of women. Why would he be jealous of Arthur?
