If you ever heard him in person, he had amazing projection, his sound just effortlessly filled the hall without sounding forced. Yes, there are other great versions of Brahms, but Henryk always sounds so, well, "satisfying" and for lack of a better word. He's always the perfect violinist for whatever mood you are in, unlike some other greats, and he never lets you down. This is why he has diehard fans.

Beautifully put. And so true. I knew him well, and attended his master classes in Geneva in the 80s. Standing next yo him when he played was like standing inside an organ. Truly incredible.

Magnificent playing, and here we see Szeryng at his best . but not playing on the "Le Duc" Guarneri, but on the "Hecules" Stradivari of 1734. Ten years after this performance, Szeryng donated the instrument to the City of Jerusalem and today is in use by Israel Philarmonic's Concermasters.

thank you for sharing that! And to think, no matter the violin, he still sounds like no one else - only Szeryng!

What I find especially astonishing aside from his marvellous playing and technical skills is how he just stands there, barely moving and still produces such musicality and emotion.

He and Zino Francescatti were my favorite violinists. Thank you so much for this upload. It's wonderful. And so Brahms.

I saw Henryk Szeryng paying this Brahms violin concerto in my home city about 1960. Unforgettable...

@@Xenia9That's amazing! I wish I could have ever had such an opportunity. It's odd to think that back then, this concerto was less than 100 years old

Amazing playing! Such security, tone, projection, intonation, and of course great interpretation. Other recordings can be equally as impressive or moving, but nothing could be "better".

Szerink était un sacré violoniste. Brahms a une écriture vicieuse aussi bien pour le piano que pour le violon. Szerink s’amuse.

Perhaps the greatest recording of this concerto. Now, that cinematographer has to learn a few things about cinematography: first of, fade to black cuts imply some time has passed, it's very disjointed to see it used in a live presentation, it feels like I went to the bathroom and came back, distracting and awful.

@@franciscofragoeiro5229 not so recent, Vertov had grounded the rules of modern editing a good 35 years prior This recording is from the 1960's
