Severe lightning storm Poole July 3rd 2015

Moving up from just east of Swanage the storm hit around 23:20. Moving North and hitting Poole and Bournemouth. The storm lasted around 20 minutes caused severe localised flooding in areas of Poole and Bournemouth.
I was filming looking North West from my bedroom Window with the Storm moving roughly North
Mother Natures wrath at its best.
The clicks you can here in the background were lightning strikes being recorded as they touched down on a web page called lightningmaps.org The app on the iPad is called Rain Alarm XL
It was one of the most amazing and intense Thunderstorms I have ever seen in Poole. We dont usually get these types of storms. It was literally lightning at one point more than 2 or 3 times a second.

Wow I remember reading about this storm , studying meteorology is a hobby of mine. I’m from Ireland and we hardly ever get thunderstorms here. I know that southern England on occasion’s gets severe thunderstorms but I don’t think on this scale though. Still rare, are mesoscale convective systems, which it appears that this one was. I think this was a spanish plume set up with a strong jetstream and low pressure system. I also know that southern england does get imports from northern france from time to time but the storms frequently lose their intensity by the time they get to southern england. Other storms that I can remember were the storms of June 18 2019, and the storms of july 23 and 25 2019, also early august 2020. And I had forgotten about the storms of June 28 2012 but those were mostly in the midlands and northern england. . The real nasty storms in france are mostly focused in the south and southwest too.

The sunset was yellow tinged and so ominous around late sunset, when it finally made a break for land it was incredible, the most intense thunderstorm I've ever seen in the UK for that 20/30 mins it lasted over Bournemouth, I know a number of people commenting on it around that time called it a supercell thunderstorm.

My great-great grandfather came over to the states, born in Poole. Would love to visit sometime. Great video.

formidable38 Thanks for the comment, The website is www.lightningmaps.org/realtime?lang=en Just set it to where ever you are in the world. Over 250 thousand lightning strikes were registered over the UK that night. An amazing storm.

Wow! I'm going to get on that site, because here in Atlanta, Georgia, we can get anywhere from 400 to over 5,000 lightning strikes in 15 minutes, and believe you me, it gets very loud! I hope it's accessible for blind users, because I'm totally blind, and I use the keyboard exclusively. I also use text-to-speech, screenreading software to read or hear what I'm typing like right now. It's called JAWS by freedom scientific dot com, and they have a demo you can download if you're interested in knowing how it works. They even have "British English" or "United States English" voices you can try. It's also available in over 36 languages now, so if you know somebody who's blind who needs assistive technology, that's the best place to go. There's also freeware called ndva, but it's much harder to understand.

I remembered waching this storm with my mum it whent right over our house is was shocking (see what i did😉) btw your website is awesome but i have a problem trying to see the times please can you improve on that thanks (btw im not hating) lewis

The times for what? Railtours? Some of those tours are put up months before they happen so the times will be linked to the relevent page of the railtour operators website. I dint have the time or effort to go through lookibg for the times and publishing them closer to the date when the tour runs. Remeber its a one man operstion.
