I want to like Watamote, but cringe comedy is the worst thing in all of fiction. That and the uncomfortable content meant it was doomed to a limited audience; well crafter though it is. Its a shame because all the other shows with a similar theme feel like a soothing lie, while only Watamote felt like the actual experience.

A hilarious, cringey, relatable, sometimes sad comedy manga. There’s a great anime adaptation that is a great starting point, but it only covers the first part of the manga. You should check it out!

The episode that hit close for me was the one where she asked her mom for help getting a baitou and instead of getting in a place she aspired to be, ended up in a factory, where older colleagues had a single "joy", filling the recreation room with smoke during their lunch break. I freaking hate factory working environment and glad to be out of it
