HEPTONSTALL 13th CENTURY RUINS Church of Thomas à Becket 4K DRONE DJI

The ruins of the Church of St. Thomas à Becket are located in Heptonstall, West Yorkshire, England, and stand as a poignant reminder of the area’s medieval history. Originally constructed in the late 13th century, the church was dedicated to Thomas à Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury who was martyred in 1170. Built in the Gothic style, the church served as the religious heart of the community for centuries. It features pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and remnants of stone carvings that highlight its architectural significance.
The church fell into disrepair after a violent storm in 1847 caused extensive damage, leaving it beyond practical restoration. A new church, also dedicated to St. Thomas à Becket, was built nearby to serve the parish. Today, the roofless ruins remain a striking landmark, surrounded by an atmospheric churchyard with historic gravestones. Visitors are drawn to its serene setting and the opportunity to explore its fascinating architecture and historical importance. The site is also notable for its connection to the local poet Sylvia Plath, who is buried in the nearby cemetery.

Yes it was and I bet. You have to be there to experience it but I tried to share as close to being there in the video. The local pigeons weren’t too happy at first lol. You could hear a pin drop in that lovely village

@ It was but the problem is, the entire village knew I was there the moment I took off and bear in mind how quiet all the mini series drones are lol. I heard someone doing there garden about 500 metres away that’s how quiet it was lol

Hi Derek, It’s great to see you on the channel and thank you for watching and commenting. It was someone I know that recommended this place to me otherwise I wouldn’t have known it existed lol. It was worth it as the village surrounding it is in its own time warp and would make a great place to film a period movie as nothing has changed there. I have Fountains Abbey on my list funnily enough although I don’t think they like drones so would have to perhaps find somewhere that I could still film from safely. I will contact them though as I always do although not all respond lol. If you know of anywhere else you would like me to film please let me know : )
